Feeling nostalgic... and found this pic I took at DLD in Tel Aviv two years. Not sure what this robot arm is doing, but I remember it being impressive if you haven’t been to DLD, it’s a zoo, hot as hell, but still a a lot of fun. “Downtown” Tel Aviv is taken over for this innovation festival
Aside from my newsletter I haven’t really written and posted about Israeli tech on IG since that long humid summer of 2016. Two years is a long time but I’m still of the belief that despite the many challenges (and let’s be honest, flaws, we’re not perfect, no one is) the scrappy Startup Nation still has a lot of juice and you all know I want the country to be the best it can be, and sometimes that means giving honest feedback. Like you would to an old friend
Back here in Silicon Alley though it looks like the Israeli-American (American-Israeli, whatever) companies with that mixed DNA are the ones which going to be insanely successful aka future unicorns WeWork, Compass, Via, Yotpo, Lemonade, etc. there is something about that mix... Israeli chutzpah and US process/experience that make a killer combo What should be interesting to see are the young gun up-and-comers, the next crop of future growth startups with that mixed DNA rising up now yalla, let go!
