Good Maximum effort lower body at my coachs gym today. Started off with Anderson goodmornings using my Swing Set Straps and managed to work up to two heavy singles at 180kg and 200kg respectively.
The supplemental work included deficit deadlift triples at 180kg followed by a few sets of Tempo squats (4 - 0 - 1 tempo). Nice and tired, now it's time for a good meal and some sleep.
Recovery is just as important as training! Today was work. The slowest tempo squats ever: 76 kg/167 pounds 4x3s. Then 93 kg/205 lb deadlifts 4x3, followed by 88 kg/194 lb for EIGHT. Bfndbdjwihdbdbjsksjdndndjdjjdbdbdbdjdndbd
On paper, it didn’t look that hard but in execution, today was like hey I taste vomit and tears.

You know when you’re in a public bathroom, and you’re walking up, slowly trying to hover close enough to not make a mess, but high enough to not actually sit on the seat? These kind of felt like that. He made me do TEN THREE TIMES starting at 6RPE working to an 8. At 3-0-0 tempo. That followed by some more things, then yard work, and about all I’m useful for this morning is typing. 🏳

Man! These #temposquats are the reason why my legs were slightly on fire. Top set of 270lbs for 4 reps. Although, it works. During this movement, I had to focus on a couple of things.

When going down, I have to brace as hard as I can and keeping the core tight in order to not break my form.

I like to count in Mississippi's in my head. For this, I counted three Mississippi's all the way down.

Once I'm low enough, I explode back up as fast as I can.

Try these out in your program if you haven't already. It's hard but will make you stronger on the regular back squats. Let's get it!

Recently I’ve experienced some failure in my workouts. Last week I couldn’t finish a single set of high-bar squats, probably b/c I was rushing everything: my warmups, my set up, my descent. This week I made the opposite mistake and treated my first two sets like tempo squats. Of course I ran out of steam. Today I failed to control the last second or so of a tempo squat, crashed into the safety pin, and had to work like hell to stay with the lift. And couldn’t finish the set. You can bet I made damn sure to control every single descent after that. Second vid shows last two reps of fourth set of 6 reps. Not bad. I’m not sure if I’m quite hitting competition depth but I am dropping below parallel. The short answer to this question is as quick as the the athlete can perform the squat under control. When analyzing if a squat is quote “under control” we can look at three main things:⁣


1️⃣ Does the bar stay directly over the mid-foot throughout the squat?⁣
2️⃣ Does the athlete maintain a neutral spine throughout the squat?⁣
3️⃣ Do the knees track directly in line with toes?⁣

In the video above is athlete @swoley_ghostie. Over the past few weeks we have been working to actually slow down the descent of her squat, specifically the initial break of the hips and knees. The video on the left is Jennifer’s original squat followed by improvements on the right.⁣


On the left Jennifer is descending very quickly which actually puts her into anterior pelvic tilt and lumbar extension right from the get go. This tilt of the pelvis and extension of the hips causes her to lose some of her tightness and brace before even performing the squat. On the right you will notice Jennifer is descending slower and therefor able to keep her brace (avoid lumbar extension) and actually sit a little deeper in to her squat as well.⁣


Squat descent speed is no one size fits all. Every athlete will be a little different depending upon things such as training age, body type, limb length, etc. The main takeaway is to find the quickest tempo that allows the bar to stay over the mid-foot, spine to stay neutral, and knees to track in line with the toes. ⁣ ⁣⁣

Het gewicht is niet zo zeer belangrijk maar wel dat ik kan squaten zonder pijn in mijn knie (natuurlijk even afkloppen)
Vanaf 20kg opnieuw begonnen, andere positie van de voeten, knieën, heupen, borst, diepte eigenlijk alles... vandaag een sessie met 115kg 🥳 zelf erg blij mee 😂😂 Stap voor stap maken we vooruitgang.
