Poor posture will overuse the muscles in the upper neck as they become overused supporting your neck. Overuse decreases the amount of oxygen a muscle gets, and a lack of oxygen triggers the formation of fibrous collagen bands, known as adhesion. Adhesion makes the muscles weak and less flexible. Here are several pieces of advice for preventing the development or advancement of text neck:
1. Hold your cell phone at eye level as much as possible. The same holds true for all screens—laptops and tablets should also be positioned so the screen is at eye level and you don't have to bend your head forward or look down to view it.

2.Take frequent breaks from your phone and laptop throughout the day. For example, set a timer or alarm that reminds you to get up and walk around every 20 to 30 minutes.If you work in an office, make sure your screen is set up so that when you look at it you are looking forward, with your head positioned squarely in line with your shoulders and spine.

We're all on our 📱phones all day for hours at a time it feels like sometimes. Most of us run our business this way. It's not a matter of getting off the phone, it's more in how we are using the phone and what does that do for our body in the long run. 😫Text neck is a serious thing. The skull becomes heavier for the neck to hold up the more flexed forward it is, which puts more strain on the neck muscles. ♿Sitting in a rounded spine for long periods of time creates low back pain as well as turns off the core because it's not actively working to hold you upright. 💪🏿Rounded shoulders closes off the chest and the brachial plexus (where all your nerves for your arms are) which for obvious reasons are not good.

I’m plugging into day 2 of the #PilatesVariations challenge. I love this challenge because it’s so important that when you’re doing exercises, that you recruit the correct muscle groups and not compensate. Variations help with this! ⁣

For this exercise, swimming, I so often see people doing it incorrectly because they don’t have the back strength to hold themselves up. So I always start this movement with the head down like I have it right now. We work on engaging the core, lifting the arms without tensing in the neck, and lifting the legs without arching the lower back. ⁣

Once I feel like we’ve mastered this, then we progress to lifting the head and chest off the floor. ⁣
