Life has an interesting way of nudging us to remind us of its fragility. Mindy and I were in a helicopter flying back from France to Spain when we heard the pilot say “Oh Sh*t!” followed by a hard banked right turn. He then told us a warning light had fired... the heli was not running smooth and there were some noises we had not heard before.
Basically the Chip warning indicates metal shavings in the gear box, which can mean an imminent major nasty. We needed to land as soon as practical.
We were 20 miles out to sea with another 120 mile ocean crossing ahead of us. A water landing was definitely not “practical.” It was the longest, most stressful 10 minutes of my life. (Even more than 90 days in Erie trying to build a million dollar business from $100)
In those 10 minutes I thought of everything... but at the top of that list was my family, and my friends.
Would this be my final moment? There were a lot of prayers sent from that bird... When the Pilot called in a request for an “emergency landing,” the tower arranged quite the greeting party for us. Thankfully we made it back to land and touched down without incident.
Life gives us nudges all the time.. some nudges are stronger than others. We just have to make sure we are listening.
Mindy asked me later after her tears dried.. “On a scale of 1 to 10, how nervous were you?”
I told her “Nine.” #nudges #grateful #thatwasclose @mindystearns
