This week I have brought back an impro/courtroom-drama format i once devised & put on for the 2007 MICF with an impro/comedy troupe i was Artistic Director for...The Crew.
The format was then presented at Edfringe 2013. I was meant to co-produce & perform with the company that approached me to do it. Sadly due to disagreements & misunderstandings the Edfringe season went on without me.
That same group then presented my format (under a new name) back here in Melbourne the following year.
I've always felt a sense of lose that a format i devised could be taken away from me so easily...but hey i never trademarked it so i guess it was a case of 'finders keepers'.
Cut to last year & i am again an Artistic Director. This time of an impro/puppet troupe.
I could tell at rehearsals (at the time) that my merry band of puppeteer/improvisers were eager to try a more grown-up format of the show, having prominently done kids shows for the previous year.
Instantly i thought of my courtroom format.
If i pulled this off i could not only finally claim my format back, mix it up by introducing The Ritas (our puppets) but also provide my troupe with the necassary challenge to reinvigorate them.
This week we brought my format back under the new title FELT Like Murder.
We are now three shows down with two more to go.
I am so very happy with how our players are taking to it & how audiences are responding to it.
It's been a long journey but finally i have my baby back.
