Stop chasing comfort, you’re meant to struggle!
Identify all the contributors to your struggle - list them out by asking yourself the question: “Why am I struggling?” Then, go through that list and categorise each one as either a true cause of your struggle, or a symptom of your struggle.
This will help to narrow down your focus, and therefore overwhelm, by seeing that there are between 1-3 true causes, and the rest of your ‘struggles’ are truly symptoms.
These symptoms have a positiveness about them as they are attempts at making it uncomfortable enough for you to have to work out what’s really going on.
Don’t let them confuse you, they are here to clarify what actions you need to take to transcend the struggle.
You can differentiate a cause from a symptom by questioning how impactful and lasting the result would be if this was changed. For instance, on my list, I identified two major causes, that if I could take radical action towards these, the affects would be significant and lasting. These were: “I’m not taking meaningful, authentically inspired action.”, & “I’m not having the deep conversations I need where I feel loved and supported.” After identifying these on my list as the stand out causes, I was able to see how the other things were simply symptoms of these unmet needs. For example: “I’m relying on (person a) to show me how valuable I am, and reaching out to (person b) to fill that unmet need.” - This is simply a distraction, and if I was taking action towards the causes, I would not require this external validation. - Symptom “I’m also feeling under a constant barrage of negativity and criticism within.” - This is actually attempting to help me and make it uncomfortable so that I don’t stay at this limited capacity - Symptom
See the value in the struggle?
If we didn’t feel the struggle, we wouldn’t be alerted to how we have come off the tracks towards a meaningful and fulfilling life.
Don’t chase comfort, thinking that this defines success, it doesn’t, believe me, you’d be bored out of your brain after one week of sipping margaritas on the beach.
We need challenges to breakthrough. 👇👇👇👇
