Traveling and exploring close to home can be fun and quite educational. (Ad) .
Enid, Oklahoma is a 90 minute drive from my home in Oklahoma City. It’s a small town with a BIG history. It was part of the Chisholm Trail, Oklahoma Land Run of 1893, Oil Boom, and more.
This picture was taken inside the Turkey Creek Schoolhouse. It’s a one room school that was used from 1895-1947 before being moved to the Chisholm Strip Heritage Center as part of their historical village. You can learn a lot about a place at a museum like this. Not being from this area, I didn’t know the details of the Land Runs in the late 1800s. Luckily docents were on hand to walk us through and make history come alive. .
Enid is filled with Western history like the Cherokee Strip Heritage Center, Simpson’s Old Time Museum, Woodring Wall of Honor, Railroad Museum of Oklahoma, and others. But don’t take my word for it. Go visit for yourself! .
