Sea turtles are some of the most charismatic animals on earth! (I mean who doesn’t love them) Healthy oceans need sea turtles. Sea turtles are a "keystone species", which means they are an important part of their environment and influence other species around them. If a keystone species is removed from a habitat, the natural order can be disrupted, which impacts other wildlife in different ways. Sea turtles also have a positive influence out of the water. Nesting sea turtles help beaches by depositing their eggs in the sand. Eggshells and unhatched eggs left behind provide important nutrients that nourish dune vegetation such as beach grasses, which stabilise dunes and help to prevent coastal erosion.
.
.
How can we help to protect sea turtles from the human? (Apart from the predator they have to be aware of)
1. Participate in coastal clean-ups and reduce plastic use to keep our beaches and ocean clean. Trash in the ocean can harm sea turtles and other creatures that live there.
2. Carry reusable water bottles and shopping bags. Refrain from releasing balloons, they'll likely end up in the ocean where sea turtles can mistake them for prey and consume them.
3. Do not disturb nesting turtles, nests, or hatchlings. Please find the attend organised sea turtle watches that know how to safely observe nesting sea turtles.

Thai geometric piece of art - Sak Yant There is a common misconception that ajarns/monk/hermit just choose based on reading your aura or energy. This idea is likely is due to some foreigners not having the ability to communicate with the ajarn, and so they would choose a yantra which holds a general protection spell for them, as they could not communicate on any deeper level. It would appear that they read their mind or energy, though it is much more likely they were just unsure of what else to give, and gave something powerful, though more generalized.
.
.
.
.
.
We take hygiene and quality very seriously, and have many interviewed ajarns to ensure that we could find the best suited for you to get a sak yant in Bangkok. The ajarn we practice with is also comfortable to give a sak yant to women. You will be assured good quality, and hygiene, while being very traditional in the ceremonies, with a respected ajarn – so you can come worry free and be able to be more ‘present’ both mentally, physically, and spiritually for you experience.

[DREAMING BIG] What a whirlwind this past month has been. I literally made a complete 360 across the globe as a hosted speaker and delegate at two incredible travel conferences, and MAN, am I pinching myself.
.
FLASHBACK: In June 2016, three long years ago, I was back at my old job. I had put in my notice and nervously published my first ever blog post, titled "Today's the Day I Quit My Job to Go Travelling" (yes, it comes up on Google, I just checked 😂). I was doing my best to tie up loose ends, assuring my supportive but anxious co-workers that I'd be back after a year (probably), and internally screaming. Did I really just throw away a job I genuinely enjoyed in favor of chasing a crazy, scary dream?.
Worst-case scenarios plagued me. What if the savings I'd been carefully piling up for 5 years ran out? What if we got sick while traveling? What if we were robbed, mugged, knifed, or kidnapped? What if traveling stressed our fledgling marriage to the breaking point (probably the most unlikely scenario of all)? What if we couldn't find jobs when we returned? What if, what if, what if??
.
But in all those what-ifs, there were a few that never even crossed my mind: what if our travel blog took off? What if it started earning us money before our savings ran out? What if it enabled us to spend more time together and with our friends and family? What if it replaced and outpaced my old corporate salary? What if I didn't return to an office job at all? What if, 3 years from now, I found myself being flown all the way around the world?
.
I never imagined myself on an international stage speaking about blogging. I never dreamed that I'd find myself here in Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, learning about the rich and beautiful cultures of Nepal.
.
How could I? I had only published a single blog post.
.
And yet, here I am. Pinch me; I must be dreaming.
.
Do you have wild, crazy dreams that seem too impractical to be achievable? Dream big with me in the comments!
.

What is the most challenging trek you’ve ever done?
🐾
Wow, hiking in the Himalayas is TOUGH! Who would have thought?!
😉
Real talk, though: I don’t think I’ve checked off a true bucket list experience in a while. Nepal has been high up there for me for a long time, specifically getting close to those high peaks the country is known for (because it’s home to 8 of the world’s 14 highest peaks above 8,000 meters!).
🗻
My journey consisted of completing the 5-day Mohare Danda trek, a stunning alternative to the more touristy Poon Hill trek. The trek took me up to 3,300 meters, with stunning views of mountain giants like Fish Tail, Annapurna 1, Annapurna South and Dhaulagiri. I was literally in the clouds!
😲🌥🎉
What’s wild is my group saw no other trekkers on the trail; only locals. We stayed in small villages, saw buffalo and yak, and got a first-hand look at Nepalese culture.
🐃
I also learned what I was truly capable of. I tested my limits, both physically and mentally, and became a stronger person.
💪
I’m getting close to the character limit on IG so I’ll stop there for now, but you can learn more about the experience on my blog (jessieonajourney.com/blog <— my most recent post!) and in the coming days on Instagram. 🎉
A big thanks to @nepaltourism, @impacttravelalliance and PATA for hosting my trip!

Kathmandu, like many capital cities around the world is bursting with kinetic energy. Din, din, drill. The work of ongoing construction. Clink, clank, ping. The rhythm of metal craftsmanship echoing down the alleyways. Beep. Whistle. Spit. The commotion of a busy street corner as I focus on crossing the road in the midst of sensory overload. I dash and swerve around the moving objects like a ballerina. Locals observe my awkward ballet skills. I can’t help but stand out: a skinny foreigner in fluffy clothes with “noodles" for hair.

Namaste" I nod and smile. With that one word my presence becomes lighter. "Namaste" they respond almost dutifully in a soothing tone.

Biting into a freshly made shell roti pastry placates my nostalgia for platano madurnos. Zooooom. And screeeech. A truck comes to a halt 2 feet behind us all. Oops, I tuck the pastry aside for a second to dart out of the way. Pressing up against a store front, carefully pointing my toes as close to the wall as possible, in a plie position, my eyes widen as I watch the truck drive a few inches pass me and dozens of other things, and continue down the tiny street.

Pictured above: Swayambhunath Stupa -- an ancient religious world heritage site resting on a tall hill in the Kathmandu Valley, west of Kathmandu city. A sweet respite from exciting whirls and twirls of Kathmandu city living.

This is what a good dog looks like.
This fine pupper joined us for 4 days of hiking through the Himalayas. Our small group loved having him join us. Now supposedly there's a Nepali myth that when a random 🐕 joins you on a trek, it's the soul of a monk safely guiding you through the mountains 🗻 Do you think this pupper is a spiritual being or just a regular ol' good boi?
Either way I loved having him with us.

TREKKING IN NEPAL'S ANNAPURNA HIMALAYAS WAS INCREDIBLE!
⛰️
Recently I embarked on the 5-day Mohare Danda Trek, an off-the-beaten-path alternative to the more popular Poon Hill Trek. Along with incredible scenery, I got to explore remote parts of Nepal most tourists never lay eyes on. This was a true bucket list journey for me, and I'm so grateful to have experienced it.
😍
So that you can experience the beauty of this trek too I've created a video. Check it out, then let me know what your #1 bucket list experience is. #BeyondTheGuidebook ✈️

The world’s population continues to grow, so does the amount of garbage that people produce. On a daily lifestyle require easily disposable products. The accumulation of these products has led to increasing amounts of plastic pollution around the world. 3 Major impacts of plastic pollution are 1. Land pollution (Also with air and water), animal (Food chain) and the human heath (Economic losses and Tourist distraction).
.
.
Most people think because it is inevitable to use a plastic product or it is not my concern. Why? Are you going to procrastinate until it’s too late? - The reality is the only way this problem can be addressed so “STOP” - littering on places that you visit. It is unpleasant when go travel to see the nature but instead you’re seeing the nature being destroyed by the mankind. At least, what do you think if this was your home and you’re facing daily trash at your house? If you can make an effort traveling up to the mountain, I am quite certain you can make an effort to carry your trash back with you as well .
.
.
Never has it been more important to understand how the natural world works, and how to help saving one planet we’re living in as much as we can.

.

Happy Father's Day and World Sea Turtle Day!
🐢
🐢
For 2019, Father's Day and World Sea Turtle Day are both today. To celebrate, we took our daughter (@namedtodream) to South Florida for a little turtle tourism. We started by diving in the turtle rich waters off the coast of Palm Beach with @pura_vida_divers . On our last dive, we saw four huge sea turtles and two sharks. Then we visited @gumbolimbonaturecenter and @loggerheadmarinelifecenter to learn more about these magnificent animals. At the end of our trip, we went on a turtle trek with @seaturtleop
🐢
🐢
We learned that the oceans tell the health of the world and turtles tell the health of the oceans. With increased awareness and consistent diligence, the south Florida turtle population is rebounding and is now one of the most significant turtle hatcheries in the world. We picked up a few conservation tips to remember when you do to the beach:

1) Avoid single use plastic bottles

2) Keep trash, especially straws and plastic bags, off the beach and out of the water

3) Use turtle safe lighting (low to the ground, long wavelength, and shielded)

4) Knock down sand castles and fill in holes when you leave the beach

5) Properly dispose of fishing lines and hooks
🐢
🐢
What is one change you can make today to save turtles for tomorrow?

I left Costa Rica with a deep desire to return and a large portion of that was because of @driftawayecolodge and how wonderful the surrounding area and people were. I would highly encourage anyone thinking of visiting Costa Rica to stay here.⁣
✨⁣
Finally got around to finalizing my thoughts on my stay Drift Away Eco Lodge and why I think the lodge itself and the surrounding area is the perfect sustainable getaway. ⁣Find the link to my post in my bio!
✨⁣
It is impossible to go here and not feel like you’re leaving a positive impact on the locals and the environment. ⁣
✨⁣
Where is your favorite spot in Costa Rica? I need to make a list for a return trip! ⁣

This is my favorite heritage site in Kathmandu from my city tour with @royalmountaintravel .

Thank you Kalpana @nepalitravelguide for taking me around the city and 😄 sharing so many profound local insights.

I’ve been to different heritage sites, temples and pagodas around the world sad it’s SO wonderful to have someone local guide you and help better contextualize the place and experience.

I’ve learned a lot these past few days about local culture, history, society and spirituality by observing and listening.

This is one of my favorite ways to travel... slowly delving deeper into the layers 🥰🙏🏽 it feels nourishing and wholesome even when parts of the truth, like everywhere else in the world, can sometimes sting.

I’ll leave you with one of the mind blowing questions during of our many conversations... do you think “culture” and development can run parallel? Why or why not?

The beauty of Nepal isn't only held in the peaks of the Himalayas, the valleys of Kathmandu, or the ornate religious temples. The beauty of Nepal lives within the faces and spirit of its residents. .
.
When I reflect on my time in Nepal, the memories that bring a smile to my face are the interactions I've had with the kindness of the Nepali people. The warm hospitality, shared meals, and abundant smiles are the souvenirs that I will carry in my heart. .
.
Nepal you have been amazing. Thank you so much to @PATANepal and @impacttravelalliance for hosting this incredible press trip and conference. The connections and networking reinvigorated me in ways I couldn't have imagined. Until next time Nepal 💜

✨ Happiness is a muscle ✨ I read that the other day (not sure where!), and it stuck with me.

This means Happiness is something we should practice. And if it’s like other muscles, then that means it gets easier over time. The more we work on basking in happiness and gratitude, the more natural it becomes... The happier we become. And not because circumstances have changed, or we’ve won the lottery, or found the cure to cancer, or all of the sudden have Oprah on speed dial... but because we can see that our lives are already worthy of HAPPINESS, right where we are. In this very moment. In big ways or small ways. Or maybe even both.

So let’s exercise that muscle 💪🏼... I’m happy I have the freedom to move around, and I’m happy for roots that I can call home. I’m happy for my family. I’m happy with my job. I’m happy when I eat tacos and pizza, but also when I eat big a$$ salads. I'm happy there is wine. I’m happy I’m healthy. I’m happy I’m HAPPY.

What are you happy about right now?

I spent this beautiful morning with new friends exploring Bhaktapur, a Newari cultural city with the best-preserved palace courtyards and old city center in Nepal. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city is famous for its rich culture, temples, and artisans. Here, I bought a beautiful Kalachakra “Circle of Time” Mandala Thanka that took over 2 months to paint because of the very fine painting technique. At the 20-year-old Traditional Thanka Painting School, a student takes six to ten years to become a Thanka Painter and a minimum of thirty years is required to be an accomplished master in the tradition. It’s a highly endangered art form. 15% of every sale goes to support their community and sponsor young students and talented artists coming from villages affected by the devastating earthquakes of 2015. Walking around the grounds of the city we also witnessed a goat sacrifice!! Although I was originally shocked to see (and smell!) it, this was a beautiful religious ceremony where after the prayers, the entire animal is cooked and served as a meal. .

While Pokhara, Nepal is known as the gateway to the Annapurna Circuit in the Himalayas, it is also the home of World Peace Pagoda!
.
.
The World Peace Pagoda is a monument to Peace, perched atop Anadu Hill in Nepal. The view from the pagoda is breathtaking, but for the ultimate experience I recommend hiking up to the pagoda.
.
.
The hike involves a soothing boat ride across Phewa Lake, and then an uphill trek (about 45 mins) to the Peace Pagoda. The hike was not difficult, though I was winded going up, but the views made the trek worth it!
.
.
Be sure to hike with a guide and preferably in a group, bring lots of water, and take your time as you ascend. [sponsored]

On the last day of our trek in Nepal, we spent the night at a homestay. From our room, we had a panoramic view over the village that was flanked by some of the highest peaks in the Annapurna Mountain Range. The sun cast a pink glow over the valley as it set out of sight.

The next morning, our host “mother” woke us up with cups of tea before going out to the field to work. And as we sipped from our mugs, we listened to the roosters cock-a-doodle-doo-ing, signaling to the village that it was time to wake up.

It’s a pretty picture I’m painting, isn’t it? Like something out of a storybook, or a postcard, or a dream. But let’s take a closer look...

What if I told you just outside our room there was a gigantic spider with glowing eyes? And that I had to climb down a ladder in the dark and walk past chickens & goats on a dirt path in pouring rain for a midnight pee (thank you Ben for coming with me!). Would you still think this scene is dreamy?

Travel isn’t always comfortable.

Traveling in Nepal (like many other places) can be uncomfortable at times. Bumpy roads where a short distance can take hours. Squat toilets that are BYOTP (toilet paper, that is), and where hand sanitizer is a necessity. Spiders that stake out their place beside your bed.

We recently talked to someone who said they actually *appreciate* when their travels are a bit “uncomfortable” because it pushes them out of their comfort zone. It reveals how privileged they have been in life. It starts conversations, creates connections & shifts perspectives. And, well, because it makes the best stories.

How important is COMFORT when you travel? Have you ever really thought about it?
