This year for me is the year of expression, of using my voice in new ways, in ways that (for reasons individual, familial, and cultural) I have been silencing myself; in ways in which I have been silenced. I notice, sometimes, a guilt that is not genuine, that is not genuinely mine. I am working to release this conditioning. As I do so, I am realizing, as I speak up in this season to protect others, and to state aloud the things that have caused me harm (in order to prevent that harm being done to others), that accountability is not the same as injury, even if it knocks someone on their ass. When we are confronted with our privilege, and how that is built on the backs of others, getting knocked down is in actuality aligning our paths so that everyone can rise up. May I embrace my own needs for accountability as I call out others on theirs. Our separateness is an illusion, may we cut through all that shields true vision.
