It's been almost a week since I last wrote something. I've been sick the entire time, which now makes it a full two weeks and it's been hard to stay positive and focus.
I thought many times “this would be so much easier, if I had my dog next to me“. The dogs featured in this post are only three out of six that have accomponied me in my life.
And they all have done (and still do, in case of the doggy that currently drives my mom nuts) tremendous things for me.
The first one taught me how wonderful a huge furry friend can be. The second one “listened“ to me while I recited all of my A-level exam topics to him. The third and fourth one licked away many doubts about law school. The fourth one then continued to be by my side through some very dark times. The fifth one literally rescued me from myself. And the sixth one kept my mom company while I was on another continent.
Yes, having dogs can be really hard as well. When you're sick yourself and still have to go outside. And when you have to do them the greatest service of of all, a little piece of your heart goes with them.
But this is by far outweighed by watching them grow, watching them learn and having them nudge you until you're so distracted from your crying that you just stop.
Also, when you're in a bad mood you can trust that they will do something entirely stupid and make you laugh.
I am not in a position to get a dog of my own right now. That's something that's very important to realize as well.
However, there are so many dogs in shelters that just want somebody to take them for a walk, play with them, scratch their belly and just give them the attention they need.
If you're looking for a companion that you can always trust, that will never judge you and always has enough slobber to treat any kind of wound - go look for a dog!
They truly are human's best friend!
