Today’s workout consisted of a lot of time under tension. Hit all compound movements for 4 sets of 8-12 reps and auxiliaries were 4 of 12-15. @golden.hopper thanks for the advice brother now I can’t walk! Today was a cardio day at the gym. This program I’m on is killer. Today’s was called chisel cardio and 15 minute glute chisel! πŸ™ŒπŸΌ it’s hard but great too! Some moves are a tad hard just cause I don’t have the balance in my knees yet (ex. Split squats with exercise ball ).....I didn’t give up though! I kept pushing!πŸ’ͺ🏼 -

Chest and back today..!! Lots of incline bench presses. Lat pull downs, seated cable rows, machine pullovers, rack pulls, bent over rows, incline and decline cable flys, kneeling shoulder presses, shrugs (with kettle bells and barbell) Kettle bell incline presses, more incline bench press.
Using STRICT form. 4-5 second positive and negative reps.
A few drop sets. Some heavy sets. Some high reps. MIX it up. There is no SET NUMBER OF REPS AND SETS. Put stress on the muscle fibers, TIME UNDER TENSION IS KEY. Static holds..shock the muscle. Connect with each fiber on each rep. Close your eyes and feel the work happening πŸ€˜πŸ€™πŸ˜₯

What is β€˜time under tension’ training?
Time under tension (or TUT for short) is commonly used in strength and conditioning and bodybuilding. Essentially, it refers to how long a muscle is under strain during a set. A typical set of 10 reps for an average lifter will take anywhere from 15-25 seconds depending on lifting speed. By putting a muscle under longer bouts of strain, you can cause extensive muscle breakdown leading to sleeve-busting muscles.

6 ways to incorporate β€˜time under tension’ correctly
Time your sets so they last between 30 and 40 seconds for optimum muscle growth. This length of time ensures your muscles are receiving enough of a stimulus to spur changes in size. Total length of time is important, but how you get there is also crucial.

1. Beware the lockout.
Avoid spending long amounts of time during the easiest portion of an exercise (at the top of a bench press for instance). The easiest part of a lift presents the least amount of stress on your muscles.

2. Try to maintain a steady tempo.
A typical tempo in seconds for each rep during a set would be 2/4/0 (lifting, lowering, pause).

3. Spend more time on the eccentric portion of the movement.
That refers to the lowering portion when your muscle is slowly elongating. Slowing down the eccentric portion of the lift causes more muscle damage and hence encourages more growth.

4. Focus on form.
With the longer sets, fatigue will set in and compromise form. Make sure you don’t cheat yourself and miss out on gains by breaking form or doing partial reps.

It’s a lovely thing to want to go all out and crank out your workouts, but have you ever tried to slow down and really focus on putting your muscles under tension? Time under tension is how long a muscle is under strain during a set. It is an amazing tool for creating long, lean muscle (hello yoga & Pilates). Next time you are doing push-ups or curling a dumbbell, count 1,2 for the extension and 1,2 for the flexion. Want to really amp it up? Do counts of 3 or 4 to really put that muscle under strain. It’s a great way to switch up your weight training, break through plateaus & challenge your muscles. Give it a go!

I have been wanting to go on a run every night but it’s been to rainy lately when it cools off and when it gets darks I don’t want to be dodging the pack of coyotes trying to get our pups every night! 🀨 So instead, we have been playing with the doggies and taking walks around the property to ensure we get our steps in!😊 The main reason I want to run is because I miss it! I use to do at least 3 miles a day but then my knees got so bad they’d dislocate just running in a straight line, but now I’m fixed and want to start putting it in my day. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ running is peaceful and a stress release for me. Continuing my theme of exercises for the summer @anytimefitnessdroitwichspa and wish I could go back on holiday, here are some spider curls.

Lying with your chest on an inclined bench let your arms hang down holding a z bar and curl the bar up. I try to increase the time I hold the weight at the top of the movement, to increase the time the biceps are under tension. Try them for your summer arm training.
