50kg for 5 flew up yesterday - definitely surprised myself One of the myths that I am busting during the 8 week cut is that lifting heavy makes women bulky. Just to clear things up, weight training alone does not make you bulky. Weight training in combination with eating above your maintenance calories for a prolonged period of time might. Many women come to me and say “I just want to get toned, I don’t want to gain muscle”. If toned means tighter/leaner, an increase in muscle mass and decrease in body fat will achieve that look. The best way to do that is a consistent weight training program applying progressive overall and a calorie deficit. Trust me, achieving a muscular look takes years and a hell of a lot of hard work - it does not happen over night. So if you just want to “tone up”, don’t worry about getting “too muscly and manly”, lift heavy and make sure you follow the correct nutritional approach for YOU!
