Heart Over Duty (part 22)
Katara smiled and walked carefully towards where he lay, it wasn't until she was merely a few feet away that Zuko looked to see who it was. "Oh, it's you." He said, surprised. His morning voice was low and husky and it sparked a weirdly familiar feeling somewhere within Katara, but she didn't recognize what it was. "I'm just here to check up on you, I got worried when everyone but you showed up." She admitted, carefully sitting down on the side of his bed. "I'm fine." He chuckled, his raspy voice even more prominent. "I just didn't sleep too well so I decided to lie in." He added. "I see.." she said quietly, slightly ashamed for worrying so much for no reason. "Anyhow, I wanted to tell you something." Katara said, louder this time. "Oh?" Zuko said as he sat up in the bed with a small grunt. Katara wasn't expecting it so it came as a surprise when the duvet fell off to reveal a very shirtless Zuko. She did her best to look at his face but her eyes did sneak involuntary looks at his body, she just prayed he didn't notice. "Uhm yeah. I uh.. I talked to Aang." She stumbled her sentence slightly, the recent distraction making her forget what she was going to say. "Look Katara," He said suddenly, looking intensely at her. " I completely understand if you've changed your mind after talking to Aang. I shouldn't have put that pressure on you in the first-" Katara cut him off by placing a finger on his lips and she laughed. "I'm staying, silly!" She exclaimed, still giggling. Zuko looked dumbfounded before his expression inevitably turned into that of joy. He laughed too and threw his arms around Katara. "Sorry, I was just.. I really thought you'd change your mind." He admitted quietly after a few moments of hugging. "Zuko," she sighed softly, "I won't say this again, I really do want to stay." She said into his shoulder." Love this modern Katara fanart!
