Silage is completed but we are still not done with field work! We had some solid corn silage yields this year; when the bunks were full we stopped chopping and were left with a little under 40acres for grinding high moisture corn. We had Wagner’s come in with their 12-row Cat combine and grain cart to pick the remaining corn. They can cover a lot of acres quickly with a large machine like that! After they pick the corn we truck it to a hammer mill grinder bagger that crushes the corn into flour and stores it in an Ag bag. This feed will ferment for at least a month and then we will use it to feed our cows! 🐮🌽 Corn provides energy through starch in feed and is an important piece of the ration our nutritionist creates for the cows.
