Bermuda is my 5th home (after Nigeria, Canada, Italy, and South Korea). I heart all things Bermy, the good, the bad - and the hilarious.
Bermudians are honestly the nicest bunch you'll ever come across. So many things about this island is captivating, and I love the culture and festivities.
My favourite Bermudian moments so far this week are:
3. The Honking Greetings. Without fail most of the time when we're out, my husband must honk at someone to say hello. Sometimes, it's someone he went to high school with or used to play sports with, and of course, you can't forget the “cousins” and relatives. So yes, we honk often when driving because here, everyone knows everyone.
2. The Winter Woes. This one makes me laugh too much. So, Bermuda has a subtropical climate. That means you can't enjoy the beach bum life all year round because the water DOES get chilly. Still, the “winter” isn't as bad as Edmonton's -28 degrees Celsius. So you can imagine how it makes sense that I would lol whenever I hear the locals in full seriousness and annoyance talking about “stay warm out there” or “it's freezing” or “this is the coldest day ever”….when the temperature is +15 degrees Celsius ANNND the sun is shining lol.
1. The Roadside Convos. The roadside catch ups while driving is a thing. Don't be upset or surprised if you're driving “down de road” and you see two cars or mopeds dead stop on the road, chatting. Do your best and just maneuver around them. It's part of the vibe here and you just roll with it. Like today, two bikers going opposite ways hung out on the road by our place, still half on their bikes while chatting up a storm. I watched them from our bedroom windows laughing while getting dressed to go out. Later on we're outside getting into our car and I noticed they were still there chatting. All I could do was lol….because that's how it goes here.
I love this place!
What are some interesting observations you've made about the places you've traveled?
