Chattanooga, TN – Before I was around, Pop-Pop and Momma drove around the US, seeing all the sights. Sometimes, I think they still are. After a stint near the Great Lakes, they started heading south to their new lives. They took a quick pit-stop in Chattanooga before charging forward to Atlanta. They really liked that little pit-stop, always lingering in their back of their heads like a dog-eared page to come back to. So they did, for Momma’s belated birthday.
They went for a little hike full of metal stairs and misty waterfalls. They ate some BBQ and left Yelp reviews. They attended a concert and stood on bare concrete until their backs and hips hurt and they grew tired of the drunk people being loud or puking or tripping all over themselves. So they left early and got good sleep.
The next day they ate pizza and wandered around and found a speakeasy in the middle of nowhere Chattanooga. In this place, London Calling, they took their time. They found a quiet place where they could be together, away from the world for just a little bit. This reminded them of the time on the road, where they lost themselves to find themselves.
Of course they ordered cocktails. They need to take better notes on what they drank, but the drinks (all of them) were delicious. For a little wolf, it’s hard to remember after a drink or two. Nonetheless, they bounced between bourbon and rye and gin and vodka. They maybe drank five cocktails in all, but I liked their first round the best. A frothy, refreshing concoction paired with a darker, smokier option. Almost a description of Momma and Pop-Pop, respectively.
They wanted to stay longer, but they also remembered the drunk annoyances at the concert. Plus the single room speakeasy started filling up and the magic of the first hour or two started fading to reality. Such as it is with life, when you find a moment of magic and cling to it like a donut…or in this case a tasty cocktail.🍹🍩 #tinystories #tinyadventures #travel #chattanooga #roadtrip #travelblog #cocktails #londoncalling #fromaktoatl #sitkalovesdonuts #travelwriting
