In order to heal, you have to find what works for you. There is NO one-sized fits all approach to healing. Okay, I know I’ve said it a million times, but it’s because I believe it wholeheartedly. Everyday I hear people say they feel stagnant in their healing process, which makes them feel hopeless. They don’t know what else is out there. “I’ve done therapy and I’ve tried medications, but I still feel this way.” We rely on the professionals to tell us about everything, but the truth is that many of them don’t. In 2011, I took what my treatment team told me to heart and put it into practice, but I also did my own research and I integrated that stuff as well. I wanted to try anything I could to get better. Faster. I was so hungry for more information. More knowledge and self-awareness. I wanted more relief and I wanted to better understand healing as a way of life, not just a chapter I wanted to skip through as fast as I could. I wanted to know how other cultures saw healing. I wanted to know what they did to heal. To treat different ailments. To cope. I wanted to know what the bigger picture was? What worked for other people? If someone didn’t have access to the resources I have access to, what could they do to find some relief? What else could those of us in treatment integrate as a bonus? The big truth is, YOU have to fight for yourself. You have to educate yourself and find what works for you. You wouldn’t believe how many things I taught my old therapist about in regards to the holistic health approaches I was learning about. How many lifestyle changes I made that truly did make a world of difference for me. It’s not just about taking care of ourselves mentally, it’s about taking care of ourselves “wholistically”(as a whole)-mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and environmentally. There are SO many tool, you just gotta find them.
