Franchisee Friday! This week we talked to Greg DeFever, owner of Alta Mere or Lubbock, TX.
1. How did you get into franchising?
I had a degree in finance & accounting and did that for about four years. Then I decided that’s not what I wanted to do. My wife and I started looking for another business and Alta Mere came up and felt like a good opportunity. In 1994, we opened our location in Lubbock.
2. Before the interview started, you mentioned working with your son. What is his role in the company?
I have twin boys, Carson and Cody. About 3 and a half years ago, they needed something to do so I trained both to work with me. My son Cody is almost through college and working on an internship in agriculture. Carson works with me full time and honestly at this point, he could run it by himself. He is very good at what he does. If you hear him tell the story he will tell you he’s the best tinter in town. And he is really good. The shop is a good opportunity for them. I have two good sons, they do well.
3. What is your most interesting tint job?
We tint the cars at the Nissan dealership. A few of Nissan 300s and they are expensive, high-end cars. They are special because you know that the customer is going to be very particular and we have to take special care to get the job done right.
4. What would you like your customers to know about your location?
We have been here for almost 24 years. I pride myself on being consistent and we’re not going anywhere. We are here to take care of you and if you ever have problems, we have a very good reputation for taking care of our customers. Also, if you ever have a glass breakout or something we will replace it. We would rather help out customer out than charge them for one window.
