Filmed my entire back/shoulder workout...and realized I should probably start doing that more often, because it made several issues with my form GLARINGLY obvious 😭 (This is the only not horrifically embarrassing clip from the entire day)
I usually get self-conscious about filming myself, wondering if everyone is judging me for being just another vain millennial, but being able to watch myself from different angles is really helping me correct problems I didn't even know I had!

It was a monumental day for my deadlifts! Went in with a previous 205 max, started at 220 and just kept pulling PR after PR...
Ended at 245 for my last pull before I hit a wall.

My squat didn’t feel gross today so I hit a gym PR of 330 lbs at RPE 8.5. Followed by doubles of 308 at RPE 8.5 as well. Third video is my last warm up at 319. It's been a week of PR's! I've never squatted 220 and today hit 3x220@10 lol was supposed to be a 9RPE 🤷‍♀️ not the prettiest either. 1 board bench 3x132.5@9.5. Considering I've been sick all week, I'd say I've had a successful week in the gym. So glad I have a place to go to that doesn't judge me and where I can relieve stress without feeling like I'm a complete failure at life or disappointment.

💆🏼‍♀️ REST/RECOVERY/TAKIN CARE OF YO SELF 🧖🏼‍♀️
Something that we all need to take seriously, I’m gonna be honest with you here, it’s a piece of advice I don’t always take. I neglect it 9 times out of 10 and I can feel it. My hip has been bothering me on and off for a couple of months, but yesterday it reared it’s ugly head. I was going in for deadlifts knowing I had a little bit of pain, so took it super easy and made sure not to pull my hips through and into extension. (Sometimes I overextend at the top of my deadlift, a bad habit I am going to HAVE to fix) I posted on my story that I needed some advice and I got super lucky and a friend of mine’s wife is a physical therapist. She gave me lots of good advice, helped me diagnose it as just a muscle strain THANK THE LORD 🙏🏼 and gave me a couple of stretches and exercises to throw into my routine. So, this is just your reminder that resting, stretching, and recovering are SO IMPORTANT to keeping your body healthy. Wanna know specifics/cues for some of those exercises peep my instastory. If only my #deathlift could catch up to my dang squat. I swear my squat has 100lbs on it. Here we have 260 for 4 @ RPE 9 (maybe slightly under a 9) but still like why do I suck at these so bad? A few weeks ago I had a severe anxiety attack, that left me unable to move and bawling my eyes out. The one thing that got me through it was him helping me breath and waiting out the storm with me.
Everyone deserves someone who makes you feel like you can get through anything. I'm lucky to have found that person.

Sooo. I got a lovely little overrotation in my knee two weeks ago. Jumping around on crutches now, and can't walk downhill 😂😭🙄. The last weeks training has consisted of one-legged exercises, stability training, stretching and goblet squats. And benching, of course. Now, after to weeks, i can finally squat light weights to depth. Yay 🤪 (un) - fortunately i am pretty rutined on knee-rehab and crutches by now 🙃

I still remember doing my first ever deadlift. It was before I started powerlifting, it was hard, painful, I have no doubt my technique was laughable and I worked up to 110kg for a single. Yesterday I did 4 sets of 8 at 150kg. My first warm up set was 100kg. Now that’s my favourite kind of progress 💪🏻

- More recruitment of pec muscle group/less shoulder flexion demand.
- Decreased range of motion
- Generally stronger position
- Generally Better for lankier lifters
- More lateral force transfer
- Harder on the shoulders/wrists

“NARROW GRIP”
- More joint stacking = more stable = “safer” for shoulders and wrists
- More vertical force transfer
- Less required mobility on shoulder joints
- More range of motion (specific for bodybuilders)
- More force transfer = more power output
- Generally more suited for lifters with shorter limbs and/or humerus
- Larger demand on shoulder flexion, less demand on humerus abduction.

If you are a powerlifter or someone looking to maximize objective load, typically you want a grip width that allows you to go as wide as possible while keeping the joints relatively stacked and that doesn’t induce shoulder/wrist/elbow issues. This allows for a decreased range of motion and increased pec recruitment which, in turn, can allow you to move more weight.
.
The wider the grip, the more lateral force transfer, which creates poor leverage for the triceps. The wider the grip, the less of a stable position which can put the shoulders in a more compromised position, especially for someone with limited mobility.
.
Lifters with limited shoulder mobility/stability and lifters who have shorter limbs/stubby arms may benefit from a more narrow grip width and/or a more elbows tucked position.

I don’t want to act like gaining weight has been a cake walk, so here’s the real talk. #ThisIs180 // I have bad body image days. I have more cellulite and some rolls to go with it sometimes. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Some days I feel proud of being thicker than a bowl of oatmeal, and sometimes I don’t. This is a new body. I’m learning what it can do, and I’m learning how to treat it better at this weight. Some days I can’t find clothes that fit right, and other days I can pick something random out of my closet and feel cute. But I have to honestly ask myself how I would feel if I didn’t know how much I weighed. Because honestly I don’t know. Women are bombarded with subliminal messages every single day that indicate self worth with a lower number on the scale and lower number in clothing sizes. I can’t lie and say that it doesn’t affect me. It does. It’s a mind fvck. But I also have to feel proud that my body is still an athlete. I push my body to its absolute limits every training cycle. Just because I’m not lean doesn’t mean I don’t work hard, so screw you if you think that. 😉 I don’t know what is in store for me at the 5 Bar Showdown, but I do foresee a huge increase in my total so for that I have to be thankful. 🙌 Don’t let beauty standards dictate how you feel about yourself. Don’t let the thinspo images that are everywhere make you feel bad for being a certified beefpuff. Every person is different, and every person has a different journey. Today was not a day for the win. On my way to the gym from work I got hit and ended up with a ticket somehow. On top of that I had to lift on a pretty empty stomach. Rage/anger + no food made for a pretty unstable lift. I attempted a measly 30# shoulder press and couldn’t them up. (I was doing 40-45# just a week ago) I legitimately wanted to cry. Cry from anger, cry from feeling weak when I know I’m not.
I abruptly left my shoulder workout and went to jump rope and flip tires until I was no longer angry. Funny thing is, I’m still angry but at least I don’t want to jump rope anymore. Thank you @beauty.is.the.beast for picking my head up when I needed it. .

I forgot to record my bench so here's a picture of a happy #CobeMonster instead. Moved the order of weeks around this time so I'm on 5s. Last time at this weight I didn't write down how many I got, so either I got the 5 or I failed 🤷🏼 but today, what really matters, is I got a bonus rep on the last set giving me 6 at 192.2. Which is more frustrating that I didn't record, I was focused, form was in place, etc and they were 6 good reps.
