A review of 10 studies involving 17,390 participants published in the September American Journal of Preventive Medicine revealed that replacing 30 minutes of sedentary time with light-intensity physical activity was associated with decreases in waist circumference (belly fat), and blood cholesterol levels among other health improvements. When that sedentary time was replaced with moderate to vigorous physical activity, the improvements were greater and included weight loss and lower fasting blood sugar levels.
While you scroll through posts on your phone, let's make a commitment together to increase physical activity for tomorrow! Some ideas for increased light-intensity physical activity.
--take a short, brisk walk for 10 minutes 3 times during your work day
--before an evening of TV or screen time complete 10-15 minutes of house cleaning or yard work
--add a little more time or intensity to physical activities you currently do regularly
