Smokey; found in the woods.
The first picture of Smokey, in overgrown brush beside a pile of woodchips in Midwestern America, August 2018.
I've always loved the lines of the 84-01 Cherokee, now iconic, the poster child for boxy design, & credited with starting the SUV craze. So naturally I was intrigued, with only a minute to spare I noted zero rust & that the tags had only just expired. Surely it was just parked here & they weren't looking to sell I thought, continuing on, maybe another day. A few hours later I'm talking with the owner & decide to prod, "I've always liked those old Jeeps, what's the story with that one?", "Oh, that old one, we're actually having the salvage yard come take it away this week. Why? Are you interested?" they replied. "Yes" (said as I tried to hide my excitement). We exchanged contact info & the prospect of saving this boxy wonder crafted in Toledo Ohio looked promising.
