Catching up while it's snowing, since we're staying inside & bundled up, altho' I'm sure the hoodoos look amazing in white!
(Having lived in coastal CA, neither of us has the appropriate footwear, or even jackets, for this noise!) On Thursday, we made a special stop on the way down to Bryce Canyon.
I'm a MAJOR hot springs lover, think this is around my 32nd! It's been on my wishlist for years, so I was delighted to discover it was only 9.2 miles south of where we overnighted at Wal-Mart!
We passed through several tiny towns that had really cool old houses & buildings, as well as plenty of ancient farm buildings, very scenic against the backdrop of the mountains. We also passed the boyhood home of Butch Cassidy.
Mystic Hot Springs is lovably funky, just how I like it, in the fashion of Mercey, Orr and Sierraville hs.
Would have loved to have spent the night, however the RV sites are $44 & only for ONE person, the second person is an ADDITIONAL $30...YOWZA! They say the soaking is included, but a day pass is only $15. So that's why we overnighted at WM & bought our "thank you" groceries there instead.
However, lookie at them vintage skoolies that serve as their lodgings! Each one is named and has its own flair: https://mystichotsprings.com/experiences/accommodations/buses/
As I'm chatting with the check-in guy, he says he's a UC Santa Cruz graduate...small world! (This happened again yesterday, the Ranger at the Bryce Canyon kiosk had also lived in SC years ago!) I made a beeline for the old tubs under the travertine rock! It reminded me of my favorite Eastern Sierra soak, Travertine hs, where the pools ARE part of the rock itself!
I LURVE soaking whilst it's raining, & there were 12 of us brave souls who soaked thru a HAIL STORM!! (see video)
Everyone was very friendly and we traded soaking & traveling stories.
And get THIS! They have MUSIC FESTIVALS here, so you can soak & groove at the same time, how awesome is THAT??!?! ♨ 🎶
