70 to 80%. MINIMUM.
This number indicates the percentage of women (and female-identified) folks who currently comprise the Animal Rights movement.
Women greatly outnumber men as activists, let little (close to none) has been written about the importance and impact of gender on the movement. Comparatively, opportunities and accomplishments of our male counterparts are widely covered and celebrated.
This is not a " one is better than the other" situation. This is a how can we ensure that all are included in the conversation and given space. This includes folks of a wide range of gender identifications, sexual preferences, educational backgrounds, societal classes, religions, races, and abilities.
These conversations have been happening for a while, and have recently been put back on the table. Let's keep them moving forward with critical contribution and discussion.
Today, here is to these women in the photo (and all), who build each other up in the movement, do epic things together, and compel the movement forward. And in particular, the ones who were told they weren't tough enough to be in the AR movement due to being a lady and all.
