Citrus season is starting early here on Kauai and I couldn't be more ready. Last year I really didn't do it right as I mainly juiced every batch of oranges I got. I love orange juice but oranges can be dangerous for your teeth if not eaten properly. If you are juicing a ton and not checking each one for ripeness most likely you will get some unripe ones in there. The acid from unripe oranges can damage the enamel on your teeth. Same with the acid from nuts n seeds and dehydrated fruits. Having good oral hygiene is important but also just knowing which fruits to eat. This year I will be eating them whole and only juicing ripe ones. They taste a million times better that way anyway plus the fiber is great and sustains your energy a little better than straight juice. Although there is a time and place for juicing like for healing disease. This raw food journey is a learning process for sure. I've had a few scares like teeth issues and hair loss which would have made most people run for the hills condemning the raw vegan diet for good. But this thing takes learning, we were not raised to eat this way. It's literally like relearning how to eat. There are mistakes I've made along the way. But learning about hair loss and detox kept the faith strong, sure enough now my hair is growing back where it was thinning. I had to learn about teeth care with fruit and thank god for people like Don Bennett and Anne Osborne who helped guide me along the way. Find your mentors if you're serious about this thing. Learn from those who are experts - who have done it long term. So important.
