Also on Sunday, we had lunch on the foreshore of Encounter Bay, near Victor Harbor. This beautiful bay gets its name from the encounter back in the year 1802 between British and French explorers who were charting the Australian coastline. Apparently it was a friendly meeting between the scientists even though they incorrectly believed their countries were still at war.
Another interesting feature is the raised headland seen in the middle of this pic - called The Bluff or Rosetta Head - which in the past was once the site of a whaling station (1837- early 1860s). Nowadays whales migrate freely along this coastline each year, much to the pleasure of sightseers and nature lovers.
