Another experiment with bitters: an Angostura Swizzle:
1 oz Angostura bitters
1 oz Angostura orange bitters
1/2 oz dark rum (@bacoorum 8 year)
1 oz lime
1 oz pineapple
1/2 oz cinnamon syrup
1/2 oz demerara syrup
Press some mint in the bottom of the glass, then add crushed ice, all the ingredients, and swizzle.
Back when I covered the Swizzle Royale, one of the bartenders accidentally dumped a couple ounces of orange bitters into a swizzle--the dasher fell off. She was bummed but we all tried it and loved it. It was a little too astringent but otherwise pretty tasty. This is my homage to that happy accident, deeply bitter but also richly tropical and fruity and spicy. And also SUPER red.
