My very first encounter with the curlew. Left me REALLY impressed 🧡 There’s something very distinguished and prehistoric about these beautiful waders.
Hard to spot him, isn’t it?
There’re 2 special myths about curlews people in Ireland used to believe in:
- Curlews whistle for rain (that explains a lot!;D),
- No human can ever, EVER find a curlew’s nest.
Today I’ll focus on the second thing - as this picture kind of imposes it;). So! There is a legend, that when St Patrick visited Isle of Man, he saved a baby goat that fell down the cliff - alarmed by cries of a helpful curlew, that wanted to rescue the poor goatie 🐐
Moved Saint decided to bless both baby goat and the bird. And from this moment on, no human can ever neither see a goat’s delivery nor find a curlew’s nest 😊
