I just wanted to share a little of my thoughts...
When looking at patterns within myself, as well as in other spieces, it is not difficult to see that the most primal energy flow is the survival instinct. During eons of evolution, from the simplest of living forms to the most complex, there has always been the day to day struggle to protect one's self. In our highly evolved social structures, this survival instinct has gone through evolutionary changes. Many of us no longer lack food, water, clothing, or shelter. Nor do we regularly face life threatening physical danger. As a result, the protective energies have adapted toward defending the individual psychologically, rather than physiologically. We now experience the daily need to defend our self concepts rather than our bodies. Our major struggles end up being with our own inner fears, insecurities, and destructive behavior patterns, and not with outside forces. The same impulses that make deer run away, make humans run away. A loud voice, the wrong words, or wrong look. Since it's not socially acceptable to run into the woods when we feel such fear, we shut down and withdrawal. In some cases, go hiking to search for answers. Or both. The problem is, we become out of balance. We lose sight and become lost. Closing the door and pulling down the shades doesn't let the light in. It only brings darkness. It inhibits self growth and life becomes stagnant. I find my hikes in the woods to bring clarity to my current state, but when I return to "reality" everything is waiting. I guess you have to decide...are you that person who stands at the view with your eyes clentched tight, too scared of the hight, or that person who opens your eyes and takes in the beautiful sights.
