Had the pleasure of spending three days learning how to do backstrap loom weaving in the Andean mountains thanks to @awamakiperu. We also learnt how to shear an alpaca for it’s wool and about the natural dyes used to colour the wool, and how to spin it afterwards. Our teachers were insanely skilled women from the village of Patacancha. They weave their own designs to sell as well as making products for the Awamaki shop, this enables them to increase their own income so they can support their families and community. Empowering women through textiles...yes!
They also wear the traditional dress every day, isn’t it beautiful!
