With current research, we know that you don't need to eat 5-6 meals per day to boost your metabolism or build muscle. The most important factor is hitting your total calorie and protein intake. But to optimize muscle-building, you actually want to have protein semi-frequently to increase the number of times you stimulate muscle protein synthesis (MPS), but not so frequently so that you only consume a limited amount of protein in each meal or go over your macros.
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Areta et al. (2013) compared 3 groups eating the same amount of total protein. Group 1 had 8 meals 1.5 hours apart with 10 g of protein each meal. Group 2 had 4 meals 3 hours apart with 20 g in each meal. Group 3 had 2 meals 6 hours apart with 40 g in each meal. It turns out, Group 2 had the greatest MPS through out the day. This can be explained by the fact that Group 1 had to spread out their total protein intake so much that they did not hit the leucine threshold, the amount of an amino acid to stimulate MPS. Group 3 did not stimulate MPS frequently enough, so their total MPS was lower.
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Now you could say they were only having 80 g of protein, but this study supports previous research that you want at least 20 g of high-quality protein in a meal to hit the leucine threshold and very frequent protein feedings are not the best because they are affected by the refractory period in which MPS cannot be stimulated until some time has passed after a previous MPS stimulation.
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Spreading your daily protein intake across 3-6 meals with at least 20 g of protein in each meal would be best to optimize muscle hypertrophy. Remember, this is a nuance compared to total protein intake.

โ˜•๏ธThat said, people keep sliding hard and unprotected right into my DM asking for exercises to build a bigger butt. Sometimes they feel the need to send me pictures of their current butt in order to get their point across. And as much as my 16 year old self would kick me in the jejunum for telling people to stop sending butt pics, I feel this might be a good graphic to help you build your butt without sending pics to strangers over IG.

๐Ÿฆ„Worth noting, each of these exercises are listed in order (left to right) using the progression I use to master each one. So start with the exercises on the far left and progressively make your way further and further over to the right.

โ˜•๏ธAlso, these are NOT the only butt exercises. These are just as many as I could fit. Hyperextensions, kick backs, pull throughs, kettle bell swings...there are a lot more i wanted to include but just didn't have the space. So use this and refer to it when you need, but don't treat it as "law," because there are many more options to choose from.

โญ๏ธDay 25โญ๏ธ no dinner last night, I suddenly felt really tired and not at all hungry when I put Scarlett to bed, so I went to bed at 7:15pm ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜‚. Just as well, cos the little bugger was up at 4:30 ๐Ÿ˜ซ she did go back down though. Breakfast! The most important meal of the day! I always start my day with a big breakfast, normally an omelette but today I fancied some of @davidswanseafitness pancakes! Always one of my favorite comparisons. It's amazing what eating unhealthy and living unhealthy can do to age you. When I was in high school I was already wearing over a 3 x 4 x and could barely fit into any of the desk or chairs. High school was horrible for me. I had a few select friends but the majority of people that I came across day by were cruel heartless and truly seemed to just enjoy hurting me. At least that's how I felt back then. After going through everything that I've been through in my life not just with weight training but everything, I have learned that most people that are unhappy or miserable are miserable about themselves. They hate their lives and themselves so much that they want to ruin other people. I've learned to have empathy for those people as opposed to hate.๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ’ฏ

So to anyone out there that has ever hurt me. To anyone out there that is called me to change part of myself. And to anyone out there no matter what side of the struggle you're on .....youre worth it....so FIGHT! Don't allow your situations to turn you into someone you're not. We all hurt, we all struggle, and we all have to keep fighting no matter what!๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ˜Š
