Christmas Tree Memory
Christmas tree, o Christmas tree,
You're upside down in my family!
People are weird about Christmas trees! To my sister it wasn't Christmas unless there was a tree in the house. Mum found them expensive and didn't like cleaning up the needles and I said, trees aren't made of plastic, so for a few years we tried around a bit.
We bought a potted tree but it died during a very hot summer. Another year I put lights on a potted palm tree, but that just didn't do it for my sister. Then we put up our great grandmothers, very tacky, fake tree. It's about a foot in height and got a whole load of decor glued to it. It was almost more glue than anything else. It was a plastic tree but it had been in the family for some 20 years so I could live with that, but he tiny thing usually stood in the kitchen anyways, so for my sister it still wasn't enough and we picked up a real tree at the Christmas market a day before Christmas. They were closing down, so we got it for free and everyone was kind of happy.
By now, both of us have moved out mum's place and while I'm still sticking to my lights on potted plants, my sister overcame this childhood drama whith what's displayed above: A white fake tree, suspended from the ceiling. All. Year. Around!
