I always love my job on Saturdays. I have the office to myself so it’s very mellow, and I always seem to have a great group of patients who come in. I feel grateful to treat so many different conditions (autoimmunity, fertility/GYN, various pain, anxiety, etc.) and help people feel better. .

I was planning to do a heavy gym sesh later but I think my body is needing rest yet again. I’m going to give myself a MUCH needed #acupuncture treatment at the end of my shift, maybe take a nap and see how I feel. If I’m up for it I might do some light cardio 😊

Rainy days and overripe bananas mean banana bread! I would have made banana pancakes and listened to @jackjohnson but I already had pancakes at my favorite spot with the fam this morning (s/o @moonakiscafe). This is a standard banana bread with peanut butter in the batter + a couple swirls of peanut butter and mini chocolate chips 💛 banana bread & variations on banana bread are my favorite thing to bake because they are so easy and delicious every time! I once underbaked a loaf of browned butter & walnut banana bread, and my roommates and I just ate it warm out of the tin like bread pudding 😋 I recommend trying if you haven’t. .

{TAKING CARE...} // Do you have a Care-Taker “part”? For many, women especially, care-taking is synonymous with who we are. And, the essence of it is a beautiful thing; serving the needs of those we love. For anyone that identifies as a caretaker, however, we also know that there can be a shadow side to this trait, where we become overextended care-taking everyone else, all the time; the act isn’t coming from a place of choice, agency and “putting on our own oxygen mask first”. We also sometimes take care as our “insurance” that others will like and accept us, or from a place of fear and attempting to control others or outcomes.

Care-taking often begins at a very young age, either because it’s modeled for us as the way relationships work, or because the dynamic with a parent or care-giver is unstable or insecure. In the second instance, our care-taking becomes a survival strategy; we develop a hyper-vigilance to the needs of others in an attempt to fulfill that need for them. The rationale in our developing brains is something along the lines of, “I’ll meet your needs so perfectly that I’ll be indispensable; you can’t abandon me”.

Either way, we then grow up believing that this is how relationships work; love and safety and attention are precarious things that are earned through meeting the needs of others- not necessarily because we are inherently worthy of them. And we get good at working this trade off! The trouble is, we try so desperately to ensure that we are needed by others, that they won’t abandon us, that we unknowingly abandon ourselves in the process.

So what do we do about this? How do we stop giving ourselves away? As we know from past discussions, the first step to changing a behavior is learning about it, so we can start bringing awareness to what’s going on in the moments you are care-taking; what do you notice? Feel? Not want to feel? What’s prompting the behavior? What are you afraid would happen if you *didn’t* caretake the moment/person/situation? Next, we have to start learning about what your *own* needs are by asking yourself, all day: “What do I need right now? What would it look like to take care of myself first in this moment?”🧡

Any just like that, this vacation’s a wrap! My family vacation is so special to me.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🌊

Every year my parents, brother, and I rent a cottage on Cape Cod (we choose a new one every year) and stay there for a week. We’ve never had the money to travel to Europe, or an Island, or go on a cruise, but this one week, just two hours away from home, is MAGIC.💫

There’s no itinerary. We don’t plan anything except lazy beach days and cozy board game nights. We read (a lot)🤓📚, do crossword + sodoku puzzles, hang around, sunbathe, maybe rent some kayaks or paddle boards if we’re feelin crazy. This may sounds boring to many - but to us, it’s perfect.😊

On this day 3 years ago, we were coworkers. One day later we were an inseparable team. One month later we shared a teeny tiny bedroom and spent pretty much every waking hour together, and even that wasn’t enough time. 3 years ago his arm gently grazed my back and in that moment I knew that he was my person. It’s hard to explain, but it felt like an electric current beneath my skin. For years and years I questioned what love was really supposed to feel like, 3 years ago today I found all the answers I was looking for❤️

It’s a cookie and coffee kind of morning and that’s ok! Sometimes you just have to treat yourself and simply enjoy what you’re eating guilt free 🙌

Also I highly recommend you check out @rachaelsgoodeats cookie recipe she posted in her feed very recently. It’s great for people with food sensitivities, and want a cookie lower in sugar (or even sugar free) AND you can make it nut free too!

Because I can’t have almonds or cashews I substituted almond flour for coconut flour, almond milk for coconut milk and cashew butter for sunflower seed butter. You can also do a chia egg instead of a regular egg. I also added a little less maple syrup but you could also do sugar free and likely just add a little more liquid. I didn’t have the baking dish on hand that I wanted so I just made mine into individual cookies and baked for less time. Give it a try! ✌🏻

I had a horrible anxiety attack yesterday at work that came out of nowhere. Usually, I’m pretty good at handling my anxiety and staying one step ahead of myself so I don’t spiral out of control. However, I’m not a robot and I can’t control it all the time. Mental illness isn’t something you can turn “on/off”. It isn’t an “excuse” when you’re falling apart mentally. It’s real. If you’re dealing with mental illness, please take care of yourself and seek help. Talk to a friend, a loved one, or try seeking free services like my friends over at @sanomind— or me! I sometimes get sick of cooking but quite honestly most of the time I am happier with what I make at home over what I can get at a restaurant. S A T U R D A Y, is tasting berry delicious so far.
Overnight oats made with 1 1/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk• 1 1/2 tsp of @ujidomatchatea • 1/2 cup of @onedegreeorganics sprouted oats• 1 tsp of raw/unfiltered honey 3 tbsp of @nutiva chia seeds. Put all the ingredients in a jar and stir. Put in the fridge and leave it there until you are ready to 😊enjoy.

I topped with @driscollsberry black berries and @naturipe blueberries, drizzled some @barleans flax oil, @manitobaharvest hemp seeds and drizzle some eucalyptus blossom honey + @zesprikiwifruit.
We are library bound before baseball ⚾️ and a couple of birthday parties. Hoping I can sign on to @nutritionschool during nap times cause this mama bear has a lot of school to catch up on.

Yoga, Bollywood dance class (no pictures for proof, sorry) and nourishing food left me feeling 👌🏻. I'm curious, do you guys know your dosha? Let’s get physical! 🏋️️‍♀️

I was inspired by a friend to get off my booty and get back into really working out. I’ve been going to the gym but it’s been pretty relaxed schedule and intensity. 😴
.
Being a true extrovert, I am energized from outside influences, so I thought it’d be SO much more fun to start a new workout program with a few others.
.
Who is interested in joining me and some other ladies in a free exercise challenge/support group, starting on Monday? We will have a private group on FB to share progress, challenges and support.
.
PM me for details about the program I am using, which I can share with you. It can be done from home or at gym. It’s more focused on strength training so you’ll want to add in some sort of cardio.🤾‍♂️🏄‍♂️🏊🏻‍♀️🚴🏻‍♂️

These past few weeks have been a whirlwind. From settling into a new city, starting a new job, meeting tons of new people each day, to the final days before my wedding, it’s been a lot. So many people are confused by how NOT stressed or obsessive I am about having this wedding coincide with everything else, and I’ve been reflecting a lot on that. To be honest, for a minute I felt a little guilty about it. But it comes down to this— It’s all a choice. 💙

It’s not that we don’t care about our wedding or find it meaningful, it’s that we both believe that one day of perfect detail is not going to surmount to validation of anything in the end. We believe it’s about working day in and day out to being better partners in life while we continue to build the future we want - not absorbing ourselves in the details of one day. We’d rather focus on the activities we know will be foundational to the days after the wedding, than small parts of a day that no one even cares about or notices. Don’t get me wrong, we’re excited and grateful to celebrate with loved ones, but my point in sharing this is—don’t let others dictate the way you think and react to things. It’s okay to feel different. Stay true to yourself and what matters to YOU and always remember that everything, including what is “stressful,” is a choice. ✨
