This is going on my personal column because I'm trying to squeeze in books from my TBR around the readalong, buddy read and recent Stephen King obsession.
(Seriously, reading this made me feel like I was being unfaithful)
Ahhhh, where to start. I enjoyed this in the same way you might enjoy a typical hollywood action movie. All of the usual plot points and themes, padded out with some crazy diversions to make you think, "this is the shit!". Ultimately, you come away afterwards wondering what the hell you've just watched.
The first half of the book could be a different story entirely, from the midway point it was almost like the author had a brain fart and started throwing more cliches in. It must have the car chase, the sleazy detective, the domestic abuse, the perp who is really the victim.
I breezed through this, eyes back and forth between events as though I was watching a hot tennis match. I THINK I enjoyed it in the respect that it was a quick read to bounce through, having predicted the outcome. The subject matters could be considered shocking, if not already oversold. And the main character could not compel me to care about her, even if it was her super power.
But maybe I'm being too cynical.
