When May approaches each year, I look forward to several of my favorite seasonal produce.
One of our yearly foodie feasts since my earlier corporate Miele days was white asparagus or spargel. The coming into season always coincided with our international marketing meetings, so we could always visit the nearby farms and lug them home. My record haul was 18 kg of spargel in a single trip.
Blessed with friends who still head that way, I received my loot this weekend, collected directly from the farm just before the flight back to Singapore.
Best way to enjoy them in our opinion - peel away the fibrous skin, steam in the #MieleSteamOven for 8-10 minutes (or use the Miele automatic programme for white asparagus), and enjoy them with creamy scrambled eggs, cold cuts and Hollandaise sauce. If you have the time, collect the trimmings and make a white asparagus soup.
