Hey Ya'll! I always talk about reading labels in your skincare and your food because it's the key to being able to compare and control what goes into your body. But, I realized to most people it may seem easier said than done especially when we're in the grocery store with a toddler, or you're just an average person in today's busy world) ⁣

So, I decided to do a mini-series⁣
detailing exactly how to do so! Today, I wanted to highlight 2 cans of mandarin⁣
oranges (Luna loooves them) from two national brands. ⁣

𝗟𝗘𝗧’𝗦 𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗢 𝗜𝗧! ⁣


𝟭.) Low Sugar Can A (the white can) :⁣
Has 100 calories⁣
9% Carbohydrates (Carbs) ⁣
4% Fiber ⁣
20 grams of sugar ⁣


Ingredients- Oranges, Water, Sugar and Citric Acid (a natural and vegan preservative)⁣


𝟐.) Low Sugar Can B (the yellow can) : ⁣
Has 60 calories⁣
4% Potassium (added bonus)⁣
4% Carbohydrates⁣
5 grams of sugar⁣
⁣ ⁣
Ingredients-⁣
Oranges, Water, Sorbitol, Acesulfame Potassium, Sucralose, Cellulose, Citric⁣
Acid ⁣

𝗦𝗼, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗜 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲? 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗔, 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧! ⁣

Even though Can B had a significantly lower number of calories and sugar, plus included Potassium I literally couldn’t stomach putting those unnecessary ingredients in my family’s body. I was shopping for low sugar mandarin oranges, not a scientific experiment. Smh Lol⁣

All jokes aside, when you’re reading labels, make sure to weight the pros and cons and ALWAYS let the ingredients section reign supreme and be your final decision⁣
marker. Make sense? ⁣

There’s a lot of unnecessary fear created around food choices where in reality a lot of these assumptions couldn’t be further from the truth. One of those is thinking that white meat is better than dark meat. While the nutritional content varies very slightly, they are both great protein sources. Just like white rice and white potatoes are also healthy options. I’d focus more on the quality of ingredients in your food and the portion sizes. Most importantly, eat what you enjoy! Diets that are most sustainable are ones that you like and can stick to. If you don’t like brown rice, don’t force yourself. There are plenty of healthy ways to get in your protein, carbs and fats. •••

Easy sheetpan meal with wild salmon glazed in green pesto served with new potatoes 👌🏻 you can easily double or quadruple for a family meal or leftovers for meal-prep!

Home cooking does not mean elaborate dishes every day of the week. Cooking one pan / tray sheets is a great way of saving washing up too.

New potatoes are a great way of incorporating whole food based carbohydrates in with little to no fuss with a wash and touch of oil and herbs. They roast quickly making it crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside 👌🏻
The wild salmon is coated with pesto on the flesh side and baked with 10 minutes remaining followed by the Asian greens (pan Chou) for the last minute to lightly wilt.

It’s all about these meals creating no fuss, sexy and tasty food
521 Cals
37 protein 45 carbs 21 fat
125 g wild salmon fillet
250 g new potatoes
1 tbsp green pesto (Check out my previous pesto recipe)
1/2 tbsp EV olive oil
Handful of Asian greens
Rosemary

1. Heat the oven to 200c.
2. In a baking tray, add the oil with the potatoes. Roast for 30 minutes.
3. Remove, turn heat down to 180c add the wild salmon with the pesto on top. Put back in the oven for 10mins
4. Remove, add the Asian greens. Put back in the oven for 1-2 mins.
5. Remove and serve.

Wild salmon is preferable but any salmon is better than none to be honest. To save money on wild salmon - it’s totally cool to by frozen - the wild salmon on the shelves in the UK is defrosted frozen anyway. I buy mine from waitrose which has 20% of fridays too. It’s usually the same price if not cheaper than organic farmer or farmed salmon! ❤️ Ryan

Meal Planning : This is what I prepped on Sunday to get me thru the week. I also bought Tuna Pouches (no more fighting with the can opener ~ I love it 🤣), bags of salad, fruits (this week I was craving grapes, mango & apples), hummus & peppers. .

Top Left is Chicken Sausage w sautéed spinach and roasted orange peppers. Top Right is just roasted sweet potatoes(and another pepper). Bottom Right is a Corn, Cucumber& Tomato Salad w Feta w a lime juice/Olive Oil dressing. Bottom Left is Roasted Tomato Soup (#paleo #whole30 ) and I’ll post that recipe later this week!! .

These are probably the best paleo cookies I have ever made. If you are a lover of coconut you will love these, they are chewy and delicious and if you don't want to drizzle chocolate all over them they are just as good. I will be making these one hundred times again.

Don't throw out the artichoke water! Drink it like tea instead, it tastes great and is filled with vitamins and minerals that end up in the water in the cooking process. It's another reason to love having this delicious vegetable. 😋

This week’s quick and easy dinner/meal prep: salmon with spaghetti squash! ✖️
For the spaghetti squash: cut in half and scoop out seeds. Place in @instantpotofficial with 1 cup of water. Cook on high pressure for 7 minutes. I sautéed it with fresh vegetables, herbs, garlic and topped with goat cheese.

For the salmon: get a cast iron skillet really hot. Dry salmon on both sides and season. Cook in avocado oil for 2-3 minutes per side, flipping just once. Perfect every time!!!

SPELT BREAD!! 🍞 I’m pretty picky when it comes to bread simply because I know what my body likes and what will make me feel sick and bloated. When I buy a loaf it almost always sourdough spelt of just plain spelt with no additives, dairy or eggs. It’s hard to find store-bought bread that doesn’t include preservatives (bad chemicals) and sugars. Even if it says “whole grain” or contains tons of seeds that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s clean and healthy...READ YOUR LABELS!! Finding bread that is clean can usually be more costly. To me, health is worth investing in however who doesn’t like to save? This is why baking my own bread when I have time is SUCH A LIFESAVER! If you make them in batches you can even pre-cut and freeze loaves to have them ready in the future.

Ok let’s get one thing straight. Every BODY is different. What works for me might not work for you. We are all bio individual and our body’s react to different things in different ways. So, that being said....spelt bread. Although I eat a gluten free diet (because I feel my BEST when I do) I still consume CLEAN spelt bread (yes there is gluten in spelt flour) because it doesn’t aggravate my stomach and leave me feeling good!

I encourage you to experiment with different breads and read your labels if you are feeling pretty bloated with the bread you’re eating. Notice how your body is reacting to it and listen to your body cues!!
