You'll frequently hear me talk about "real food" but years ago, I had no idea what that even meant! I thought "food was food". Turns out, ~80% of what we find in the supermarket is not real food‼️
It's ultra-processed, factory-made, franken-food. 🧟♂️ These "foods" wreak havoc in our body. They leach our bodies of essential nutrients and lead to inflammation & chronic disease. They often contain toxic oils, GMOs, artificial colors/flavors, preservatives, and sugar.
DESPITE WHAT IT MAY SAY ON THE LABEL, these foods are NOT 👏🏼 GOOD 👏🏼 FOR 👏🏼 YOU 👏🏼
⚠️Let me say that again for the kids in the back: 📣Despite what a label says, processed food is NOT good for you! ☠️
So how do you know what a REAL FOOD is? 🤷🏼♀️
Real foods are mostly single foods in their whole form. Think fruits & veggies, high-quality pastured meats (and their fats), wild caught fish, raw milk, raw nuts & seeds (and their oils, milks & butters), and whole grains & legumes. 🍓🥑🥥🥒🥩🥚
Real foods are essentially INGREDIENTS. They need to be prepared at home to form meals. Real foods are MINIMALLY processed and contain few ingredients. All of which are other real foods (for example, onion powder, rosemary, black pepper).
NON-real foods are often times only able to be created in a factory and use multiple methods for creation such as adding solvents, heating to high degrees, bleaching, degumming, etc. (Like canola oil).
They often contain LONG lists of ingredients which are many words that do not look like food (for example, autolyzed yeast extract, sodium benzoate, sucralose, soy protein isolate, etc.) 🤢
👍🏼 Rule of thumb: Look for foods with fewer than 5 ingredients that are all words that you recognize and feel happy about eating.
What are your 3 all-time favorite REAL foods ⁉️ Mine are brussel sprouts, wild fish, and macadamia nuts. 🤤 #justeatrealfood
