The beating heart. To me, there is not another wonder of life that is more astounding. Think of the catastrophes, the outbreaks and all the great plagues. That meek thump within the hollow of our chests is evidence that life survived. That it flourished. Why do I speak of life's triumph while in this image, everything is dead? The frog is dead, the tree bark it is on...the forest is dead. Observe closely how the frog sits astride the bark. Just as frogs do wherever they so exist on this planet. At school, we are all taught about the instinctive response mechanism of 'fight or flight' - to stand ground and fight or flee toward safety, in the face of clear and present danger. It does not appear this frog attempted to flee from the flames that were engulfing the only home it knew, from every direction. It did not put up a fight. It appears as if it simply sat where it was and waited for the fire to snuff out its breath. Of all the unthinkable dangers and death-blows that were dealt through time, 'life' only just made it out into the light because of its willingness to fight what could be fought, escape and overcome what was too fierce to face-off against. I urge you today to ponder the calamity that may have lead to this moment - when a beating heart lay silently and offered itself to death.
This moment was one of many captured from a forest-fire caused by man in Peru. : My favorite person @gowrivaranashi
