GAME DRIVE FIVE.
We had many an “African massage” as we violently shook and rattled through streams and climbed rocky banks to get to where ever Jacob’s (our guide’s) tip-off was. We pulled up in a ticket of trees by a couple of other jeeps, still unable to make out what all the fuss was about. Then something moved in the thick undergrowth. An ear hear, an eye there, a flash of tail. It was a leopard. We followed these little flashes of spotty fur until without warning the large powerful creature prowled through the undergrowth stopping for a moment to shoot us a curious glance. We were transfixed and Jacob was ecstatic. He urged us to take many photos as a sighting of this quality was rare. Something caught the leopard eyes, it dropped low, took two stealthy steps forward and dived headfirst into the bush. Something small and terrified burst out the other side, but our cat wasn’t up for the chase. It revealed itself again briefly before slumping down out of site in the bushes. This was the the headline act and in safari terms probably the most fairytale ending you could ask for. -
