Diego Mugnaini, Fattoria Casa di Terra’s agronomist welcomes me on a bright, warm☀️November morning. Located in the middle of the Bolgheri DOC, @fattoriacasaditerra is surrounded by vineyards in all directions.
The steel and cement winery, sleek and stark compared to the lush beauty of Bolgheri in summer🌞 is the perfect symbol of old and new that represents Casa di Terra. Its architecture is an unique counterpart that creates a balanced juxtaposition with the vines.
Casa di Terra was founded in ‘50s and has evolved over the decades from traditional agriculture to a new modern winery, starting small but now spanning almost 50 hectares.
The current owners, Gessica and Giuliano have received accolades and prestigious awards🏆for their stellar wines.
The offering at Fattoria Casa di Terra spans the spectrum from still whites,to sparkling, to rosè and to reds.
The first red I tasted was the Lenaia Toscana IGT, an enjoyable blend of Malbec and Merlot great as a daily drinker. Moving on Moreccio,a Bolgheri DOC with a good complexity,is perfect to be enjoyed with your family👨👩👧👦 or your close friends; Mosaico, still a Bolgheri DOC but this time more density and richness ( Merlot 85%,Cabernet Franc 5% and Petit Verdot 5%).
Now we come to the Bolgheri Superiore DOC, Maronea, an elegant, silky, luscious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) and Cabernet Franc (15%).
Last but not definitely least,Casa di Terra, the second Bolgheri Superiore DOC of the line, a bold, rich and extremely expressive wine made from 100% Cabernet Franc grapes🍇which come from three different parcels of the Estate.
Unfortunately I couldn’t taste the whites, because they were all sold out! Another good reason to come back to visit 😏
All the wines are characterized by little or none intervention during the vinification process. Pursuing an “hands-off" winemaking approach
@diegomug85 says: “If you worked hard all year in the vineyard to obtain high-quality grapes you don’t need to use any “magic potion” inside the winery”. If you’re coming to the Bolgheri region of Tuscany it’s a great place to stop along your trip and enjoy some really good wine and the beautiful countryside.
