The NingXia Wolfberry vs. Arthritis/Inflammation
I have a bone spur and arthritis in my hands, thumbs and feet. I’ve had it for years, most likely from numerous years of gymnastics and everything that followed. I used to get regular cortisone shots but I said “no” to that a few years ago. The cortisone shots caused pigment loss and it thinned my skin. My hands looked pale, veiny, and altogether unattractive, plus the synthetic cortisone is bad for the body. Eventually, I’ll need surgery—requiring a plate to align the wrist and thumb joints—but for now I’m seeking natural alternatives.
I learned the following about the wolfberry ...
A collaborative research study found that the NingXia wolfberry contains special beta-carotene-like compounds that reduce inflammation and combat arthritis.
Over 1% of the US population suffers from arthritis and most sufferers are women. There are two types: rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, both caused by an uncontrolled inflammatory response in the body, where the immune system starts attacking the joints of hands, wrists, and knees.
As the human body ages, the immune system loses steam and starts to behave erratically. It “forgets” what is friend and foe and launches a blitzkreig on its own tissues. Arthritis is a typical example of this, an age-related disease in which immune cells begin attacking the cartilage of the joints.
With age, the immune system develops more inflammatory cells and less anti-inflammatory ones. “The soldiers of the immune system are replacing sharpshooter rifles with shotguns.” (I’ll post an Immune System post soon...)
Other “autoimmune” diseases include lupus, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Addison’s disease, scleroderma, multiple sclerosis and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. The Ningxia wolfberry can help with this, too! (Maybe more on this later.)
Vit C was found to be an important factor in reducing arthritis and the NingXia wolfberry has three times the amount of Vit C as oranges! So, the wolfberry is a strong contender for arthritis and inflammatory diseases.
