This week for #WomeninBeerWednesday, we caught up with Lori Crowe, Manager and Beer Educator @northernmaverickbrewing! (Also a Prud’homme Beer Sommelier!) Follow her @crowela!
I grew up in Singapore and I am pretty sure my first (whole!) beer was Tiger. It was the perfect beer to go with spicy hawker food in the tropical heat. They are owned by Heineken now but have some pretty great environmental initiatives like using solar panels to run their brewery and partnering with the WWF to increase the endangered Tiger population.
Favourite Style of Beer
Barrel Aged Sours. Or anything funky, wild and tart (this sounds like a profile on Tinder lol!). What I will drink at any given time is usually impacted by my surroundings – what time of day it is, what I am eating, what the weather is like.

When I moved to Toronto and began working at @beerbistrotoronto, that’s when I had my first taste of @brasseriecantillon and Trappist Ales and well, we’re all smitten after our first experience of a Lambic or a Tripel, aren’t we?
Favourite Non-Ontario Brewery
@russianriverbrewing forever stole a piece of my heart when I visited and tasted Supplication and Consecration for the first time. @lostabbey came a close second when the bartender Dave gave me his own personal bottle of Veritas because it was the last one.

Helping people who think they don’t like beer, or that they don’t like “hoppy” beers, realize that actually they do! That they just haven’t experienced the variety of styles or hops that are out there. I teach beer knowledge for tableside service – my philosophy is that the more my staff knows about beer, the better they are able to educate the guest as to what they are tasti
