We spoke to Johanna Pugh, Global Head Solution Consulting at Finastra
and asked; Has the gender landscape changed in the Fintech environment from what you have seen over the last few years? If so, in what way? “Absolutely. Being in Fintech for over 20 years, I’ve seen drastic changes. Instead of being the only woman in a room, now I’m one of a small handful of women. The Fintech industry has never looked better for women – female role models have increased significantly: you can be what you see – they are everywhere!
Inspirational examples can be found all over the world, driving innovation and diversification at the top: Lucy Peng, co-founder of Alibaba, now CEO of Lazada; Blythe Masters, creator of credit default swaps at JP Morgan, now CEO of Digital Asset Holdings; and Kim Kaselionis, former community banker, now CEO of crowdfunding platform at Breakaway Funding. Innovative organizations are now run or managed by amazingly powerful and inspirational women at a pace never seen before. There is room for continuous improvement though.
At Finastra, we have built a program to ensure we are mindful from the top down, and bottom up, to continually ensure diversification through sponsorship, mentorship, networking groups, education and intensive analysis.” Johanna will be on the panel at tonight’s #fintechinfluencers event, which @harrington.starr put on each quarter. Tonight’s event is about the culture of innovation in FinTech.
