Galapagos sea turtle lives saved today: 1! While paddling with our Wild Women Expeditions group, we came upon a sea turtle entangled in ropes from boats that were poorly moored to the pier. Our Galapagos guides were on it, and started freeing her while I filmed for a minute, then tramped through the cactus forest and lava rocks to find a house or someone with a knife. Luckily the turtle was saved! A report will be submitted to have the boat owners fined. If the turtle had died, the owner would face a heavy fine and up to 5 years in prison. Imagine if we were all held so accountable for the garbage that ends up in the oceans? Anyway, a proud and happy day all around!!
