5+ at 95 lbs and got to 8 before calling it. Uneventful lift other than noting that CG bench + single legged hip thrusts + banded monster walks are still so great and so fast to get through. It's fucking freezing and I'm again #readyforspring.

Started the program this week and lemme tell you I severely underestimated the sheer volume of it.
Bench press and OHP was yesterday.
Bench felt pretty good. OHP not so much.

Squats and sumo deadlifts were today. Squats felt good. Sumos were ehh. They were all over the place, but at least I didn't feel pain like last week. Everything just needs work.
Hope I can keep this up/stick with it. It's only been two days and I'm exhausted.

Happiest with my rows, I’m progressing quick with these, and I hope they help me with my pull ups! Speaking of, I did negatives today of 5,4,4. Hoping I can pull off (lol) actual pull up reps as soon as I can do 3 sets of 8 negatives. I havent tried in a while, but I’ve only ever been able to do 1 pull up (poorly) and 3 chin ups.

next, push ups! I started doing these on the floor!! Yay! I do still need to work on not craning my neck as much and engaging my core, but I was able to do 8 reps on the floor. I’ll stay here at this progression until I perfect it. Looking to sync my breathing so I don’t need to pause to inhale between each rep (inhale on the way up instead of at the top), keep my core tight in a hollow body position and not as much of an APT curved spine posture. Its not bad but it could be better.

Squats also went pretty well, I moved onto TRX assisted pistol squats. They don’t feel all that challenging though I do think I need to stretch my hamstrings more often so the movement is smoother. Will do these balance assisted next time.

Hinges 🙃 god I hate these especially on my bad ankle. I’m not sure what I’m looking to gain here before moving on. More stability, I guess. As they test my ankle and my core. So I’ll keep it up until I either get terribly bored or I can do them confidently. They never feel like much but my hamstrings do feel sore the next day, so they’re pretty effective .
Hollow holds and stability ball planks. These are a work in progress. Can only do 30-40s of each, hoping to get them up to 60s before progressing. Should happen someday. I always stop as soon as I feel discomfort in my midback, which is always weird. The low back is where you are never supposed to feel discomfort, but mine is always fine and the issue is higher up

Anyway this was a successful workout for the most part! So happy I’m improving! I’ve only done about 9 of these, if you include the 4 last week where I goofed off and did my own exercises. Hope to continue improving and excited to see how strong I get by the end of the year! 😊

How do you keep up with your diet? 😭 Mine is having a piece of chocolate every day or else I'd fall off the boat so fast. I also might as well become a sock fiend. Need MORE.

My lower back is almost healed. After stretching my hips in yoga the next day I feel significant difference. To all my desk job 9-5ers or whatever, stretch the hips 😭🤦🏻‍♀️

Almost back to 100% on deadlifts after a month of irregular training with those 😊 Pain-free sets of 7-8 at 205 lbs bc I forgot how to count.
Squat was 185 lbs x8 but it was supposed to be 180 lbs which explains why I wanted to die the entire time. I made it through tho so squats for the rest of the week should feel EZPZ. I was frustrated today with my practice. I had trouble with my hand balances and opening my hip flexors. And then I decided to look at the progress I’ve made. I legit didn't eat vegetables until this year. I'd maybe have them once every 3 months and never at restaurants. 2018 was the year I discovered my love of them and now I have a large serving for at least one meal a day, if not two. And I look forward to them! One of my current nutrition projects is to find new and interesting veggies I haven't tried, and also different spices to pair them with.
My current standbys are broccoli, cauliflower, and carrot blends, green beans, asparagus, and spring mix salads. I also love brussel sprouts in winter. And roasting is where it's at! I have yet to meet a veggie I don't like roasted.

One thing that's helped me with reducing hip shift and any other faults during squats, is being very slow and deliberate. This is a pain to do; squats are hard and I want to get my set done ASAP. but when I focus on rooting, on bracing, on maintaining upper body tightness, I can start to reduce issues and build capacity to squat weight with better form, even if squats don't feel like a natural movement just yet. In my amrap set (video 2), I sped up my reps at the end and lost my balance on the very last rep lol.

I used to run. A lot. I wanted so desperately to become a “runner” that I ignored the fact that distance running did not agree with my hips. For awhile, I was convinced that running marathons was what I had to do to be fit.

Then, I dabbled in bodybuilding. Never competitions, but lifting for hypertrophy six days a week and tracking every macro. I obsessed over my body fat percentage, because I thought I had to change the way my body looked to be considered fit. But all it did for me was exasperate my already high stress levels & bring back some old, bad habits with food.

Then, I turned to powerlifting. I focused on building my strength, because the higher my 1RM, the fitter I was. And remember those hip problems that started when I was running? Turns out, really deep and heavy squats not so great for them.
Don’t get me wrong, I have TONS of respect for people who do each of these sports. Marathon runners and their endurance & focus. Bodybuilders and their discipline & dedication. Powerlifters and their strength & power. But none of those sports were a good fit for ME.

These days, my workouts are just focused on doing what I need to do to feel my best. And that’s okay. I’m not the fastest, leanest, or strongest... and I’m not necessarily trying to be. Maybe that’s horrible to say as a trainer, I don’t know 😂 But I think fitness can be done just for the sake of feeling good. If you want to focus on a particular sport, that’s awesome! But it’s also okay to just exercise for general health, too. It’s okay to just do movement for the sake of movement sometimes. [📷 by @ariana.florence ]
