Oh that anti-marketing sector is great for marketing...branding is a lot like being fake to me. Brands are separate entities...aka @homedepot . You my love are not a brand. You are a person. Turning a person Into a brand is a lot like creating a separate personality. My brand doesn’t cook me dinner. My brand doesn’t make love to my husband. So then if you have a brand for yoga, life coaching, whatevs that is just you, it’s a fucking hat you have to take on and off. Feeling into new shapes and homes, canal-side in the suns hot smooches.

I’m more fleshy since I started eating for my hormone health. Thin, trim, toned or the like, is not healthy or successful > the body conditioning is deeeeeep.

So deep that I don’t even realize it’s still there. Sneaky af, the ego has many good tricks; seductive in the way it hides behind wellness.
Healthy is not vegan or paleo or keto or yoga. Health is unique to you. You do your healthy shit,
whether thats donuts and boxing,
meds and morning pages,
or yoga and steak.

Health to me is feeling good.
And knowing what feels good takes a shit load of work. (The ego is a tricky mofo with this too).
Do the work. Create your own formula, and then observe as it continuously evolves. Nothing stays the same if we ever want to grow. As will our beliefs and ideas, about everything. If there is any one principle that gets me through all the layers without giving the fuck up;

Happy International Yoga Day! To be honest, it seems kind of silly that we need a day to celebrate something that’s so internal… should our yoga practice be kept private? Between us and our teachers? Well, funny that I say that here on Instagram. But anything that draws attention to yoga is good, I guess. Or not?

Yoga was never meant to be mainstream. Yoga isn’t about becoming a good person or toning our core, like many brands and studios would want you to believe (although those are positive consequences of course). The true purpose of yoga is LIBERATION. Yoga is messy. Yoga is wonderful. Yoga is revelation and awakening of the true self… if you believe there is such thing as the self. Is this what we’re supposed to be celebrating today? Or is it just a display of colourful lycra, flexibility and general emptiness?

Historically, it was B.K.S. Iyengar who first suggested the idea of having an international yoga day, during a talk in Bangalore somewhen around 2011-2011. The idea was then promoted by the current Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA, in September 2014. Later in December 2014 the United Nations declared this day (21st of June) International Yoga Day and in 2015 it was celebrated for the first time.

Today, while we in the West and the rest of the world celebrate this day with free classes, hashtags and good intentions, it has also become a symbol of nationalism in India, where Yoga is worryingly being institutionalised and militarised. I wonder what Patanjali would say… (if you believe there was such a man as Patanjali).

So should we celebrate this day? Do what brings peace to your heart.

Here I am doing Tree Pose (Vṛkṣāsana) because Adidas will plant trees or something. I guess this is an attempt to clean their image after recent scandals and the ever-going problem with sweatshops and manufacturers in Asia. Not to mention that anything that is marketing is designed to create a need in us and make us feel ‘incomplete’, so what the f*** are we doing supporting these brands?

I hate cliches. I hate smoke being blown up my ass and I hate fakeness. I hear “love and light” a lot. •
I don’t like the idea of “love your enemies.” It’s not authentic to me and I’ve met people in my life who hurt, manipulate, and use people.

They don’t deserve my compassion, or my love. I can “forgive” from a distance and keep them as far away from me because I don’t need their negative energy in my life.

It seems like in the Yoga world, we aren’t allowed to be angry. I feel pressured to ooze love and peace at all times. Even to people who don’t deserve it. •
My edges are rough. I’ve been used and abused by people I let into my life that I shouldn’t have. I accepted less than I was worth. I accepted a lot of bullshit and I refuse to do so anymore.

No more love and light to assholes who don’t deserve it. Honor your edges. Go into the difficult feelings like anger, frustration, irritation. Find out what’s behind them. Denying them doesn’t help anyone and wishing people well who have hurt you, in my opinion, doesn’t honor anybody!! There are just some people out there who are unconscious and don’t self reflect and in my opinion don’t deserve our grace. •
Once I’m done being angry. I can forget all about you. That’s the amount of forgiveness these people get from me.

Other than setting unrealistic expectations for newbies, I suppose there’s nothing wrong with posting perfect yoga pics, it’s very vanilla but vanilla’s a’ight sometimes. However posting the perfect pose under a hashtag that says something about it not being perfect is basically a lie & can result in the peoples with the challenges getting into poses feeling like they should just pack up their blocks & go home, so wtg 😏 ::

Second, the yoga industry needs to stop promising things like poses “fix” “cure” “ heal” belly fat, sinusitis, asthma, etc.. unless you have actual science (if you do please send it my way) to back up your claims, stop making them. And stop printing such drivel @yogajournal @doyouyoga etc.. printing things like this perpetuates the cycle of students believing that teachers know more about bodies than they actually do & that yoga teachers are fixers of things. ::

People dig their own grave. When there’s something dirty, you don’t need to do more than stick around and wait until you can smell it. And matter of fact: the more you hide trash, the worse the smell gets.

Alo/Cody X Dana/Kino case is so ridiculous I don’t even know how to express myself. As a former Public Relations student, I look at what Alo is doing and I want to pull out my own hair. It makes me feel so much agony.
HOW is it even possible that a corporation with so much money, and therefore resources to hire someone that knows what they’re doing, can make so many mistakes all at once?
This is what happens:
- Dana publicly speaks about Alo Yoga issues.
- She goes silent.
- Kino let the world know what’s going on - opinions aside: she told everyone that Alo Yoga is suing Dana, and why. This information is true and public.
- People start questioning both sides.
- Dana and Kino answer. Reaffirm what they already said. Repeat it. Answer. They are CONSISTENT.
- Cody makes a public statement that sounds ridiculous: again, not because of their opinions, but because it’s SO miserably written as a desperate call for attention to something different.
- Kino answers.
- Dana answers.
- Public information shows what Alo and Cody are asking for.

Now. Most important of all:
ALO AND CODY GO SILENT.
Not a word. Only through their Ambassadors, and here and there a weird comment from one of their employees.

Yoga Jail Break🐝

Here’s a pic of me trying to train the years of yoga bullsheit out of my knees. Letting them know that it’s okay to pass my ankles & even my toes, heaven forbid!

It’s actually not all yoga’s fault. I ran for years without taking care of my joints, pre foam rolling (I don’t care what others have to say re: foam rolling, it’s been a game changer for me), etc

I also have some ankle flexion issues that prob stem from RA or just generally taking them for granted & not focusing on keeping them mobile most of my life, so I’m trying to work on those as well.

& in case you were curious, I’m using the blue band for glute training.

Knee over ankle in terms of yoga alignment is beyond outdated & people far more articulate than I am on the subject have already done a great job covering it on sm. ::

As we age our knees lose their ability to bend, so it’s important to train them & load them in various positions. I may start adding a kettle bell into this little activity soon..we shall see.

Movement is life people. I know what it’s like to have it taken away from me & I’m doing my best to prevent that from happening again.

This is the kind of total BS “information” about yoga’s usefulness that has turned me off to yoga over the past decade, leading me to move further and further from any kind of traditional practice, both personally and professionally.
Contrary to popular belief and most social media posts about yoga, it is NOT the panacea for everything!
Breathing better, moving better and moving more are all very good things that undeniably make us feel better. But, unfortunately, breathing and movement are not always taught correctly in yoga (most yoga teacher training courses lack adequate anatomy and biomechanics training, especially breathing biomechanics, so the majority of “certified” yoga teachers are woefully unqualified to be telling you how to move your body and definitely how those movements will impact your health). Only when taught responsibly and practiced well, can yoga definitely be good for you.
All of that said, let’s get back to this ridiculous graphic:
Does doing cat/cow, plank, downward dog, child’s pose, etc. actually detox you and boost your thyroid health? Seriously?? Uh…no. Not at all. Never. And anyone who makes those claims is, at best, an idiot, and, at worst, someone intentionally preying on vulnerable, desperate people to get them to believe they are some sort of guru.
Yoga can be good for you. Weight lifting can be good for you. Running can be good for you. Walking can be good for you. They aren’t magical cures for specific illnesses, but, when done responsibly and consistently, can lead to significant health & wellness benefits on individual levels—determined by individual goals and practices.
Enough with the yoga magic bullet bull$hit💩, please.

This statement may shock some but it’s been highly resonating with me over last months of my deep awakening and amount of #energywork I have been guided to do.
I have noticed that “healthy lifestyle and fancy #yoga training” are as much part of privilege like an expensive medical care. Maybe they are indeed on a different level of #consciousness but still they are just another way of covering things that don’t want to be looked at.
I am not saying in all cases and I am not coming from the place of judgement but rather from the place of purity of heart that knows all these “systems” are just a cover up for another #system 🤢
And yes, I have done two very expensive and luxuries Teacher Trainings myself, but what they were for is to only take me to my own truth that is far away from those systems.
To live by the heart one doesn’t need to be a yoga teacher or eat organic foods, one is not even interested to make a lots of money or to gain a status of a guru, but rather stay in a space of humbleness, absolute trust in God/Supreme/The Universe or however you would like to call that Life Force/Divine Love.
My journey took me to fancy yoga places to only show me that this is not who I am and who I want to be. That this is just another aspect of privilege that I am absolutely grateful for but I am also seeing the superficial and very fake part of it. Yes, I do see it as another money and power making machine that supports a lot of ego 🤔
Yoga is a very subtle wisdom of THE SELF and THE UNION with God through Thy knowledge.
Yes, yoga helps us connect to the body for sure, makes us see things from a different perspective, but I have been observing within yoga communities a lot of spiritual bias and unhealthy body obsession patterns, very masculine energies of forcing things.
So here we go I said it! Loving this self talk😂
And to me bigger yogi is a women who is asking for food on a street cos she trusts in good heart of others and that she will be provided. Amen!
Be a yogi by HEaRt not by your fancy yoga pose, new outfit or expensive raw bars you have to snack on😉

Landing back in India, reminded me of my biggest achievement in 2017. Well it kind of started in 2016 but it was totally ingrained and solidly set this year

2 years ago after having been to India a few times and savoured Yoga the eastern way, I remember the incessant need to remove the word 'Yoga' from my brand name.
I had encountered sex pests and Gurus who exercised more ego than ego itself. There were times I just wanted to breathe and enjoy my practice but there was always somebody telling me otherwise. Times I didn’t feel safe having my eyes closed in case of a wandering hand.

This didn’t sit well with me or my practice and the last scolding I got from my so called guru at the time left me feeling powerless and very fragile.
So, I gathered all these fake experiences and matched them up with my gut. This went beyond my non conformist attitude. This was touching a deeper spiritual ethic so I started saying No!

I started by scrapping all the bullshitters and so called gurus form my practice. This then created space for me to understand how Yoga will remain in my life on a very raw and organic state. This was going to be passed on to every client I encountered so I made a responsible decision of authenticity.
I then erased the word Yoga from my social media names.
If Yoga meant ego and sexual innuendos, fake love and light and men wishing to train with an underlying intention to get in my pants then this wasn’t gonna work for me

I then, after many pondering moments, released all male beings from my client list. All!

This was for me one of the most empowering decisions. The ability to choose who to work with according to my gut and intuition

The Yoga I practice now comes from a place of utter beauty. I am totally in touch of what my body needs on a daily basis and if I am, for some reason, taken back to an unsafe moment in my past, I sometimes just stand with my hands to my heart, until I start to feel the magnetic power within me.

I find this is true & unfortunately, I've witnessed so much misunderstanding regarding this stupid thing, particularly in Yoga world. I've been practising Yoga for 5 years & being a Yoga teacher for almost 4 years. I have been witnessing too many Yoga teachers out there saying things like "your pelvis is out of place", "your hips is out of alignment", "your pelvic bones aren't looking good", and so on...
I myself have always been trying to tell both teachers & students about this 'real' stuff, but people just ignore & skeptical toward me. There are no such things as your bones are in good alignment & bad alignment, "out of places", or "not in a straight line". Does anyone who lives in Yoga world has realized & paid attention that there are many reports / research show significant increase in injuries due to yoga practices & adjustments, especially hips?

Telling someone his pelvis is out of place is totally stupid & not testable.
At the age of 35 (men) a pelvis is completely ossified. There's no movement anymore. That helps to protect our inner organs!!
It safes our life.
So, stop telling & stop listening to sentence like this.

M y b r a i n t r i p p i n... when I should be analysing other people's brain I instead run my own brain image through Google's #DeepDream. Posting this as I have been recently reminded of the general preaching about "creating mind-body connection" in yoga classes. This only makes sense if you adhere to the Cartesian dualism, considering mind and body as two separate entities. Unfortunately this theory has been formed in the 17th century and if René Descartes had the access to our current understanding of neuroscience and consciousness, I doubt he'd stick to his theory. As intuitive as it sounds, there is no such thing as an immaterial mind separate form the material body. This is where I find the beauty in any type of exercise - the fact that all movement starts in that crazy little convoluted bundle of gray and white matter and that the effects of executing the movement bounce right back in there.
However, saying "create mind-body connection" does provide a good metaphorical cue to refocus your attention and become aware of the internal processes and sensations. Which is why I consider this as acceptable, dare I say helpful #yogabullshit. .

On a different note, have I just reached the height of vanity with sharing my internal organs on social media?! Meh, at least I skipped the excessive nudity part. 😇

As a yoga teacher, I see my role as helping people to feel more comfortable in their own bodies, and maybe happier in themselves. I’m not a conduit for some mystical divine super power, nor do I pretend to be. I give physical adjustments but will not aggressively adjust someone because I’m not a medically trained doctor, chiropractor, or physiotherapist.

My practice is unapologetically a physical one, and as I make a living teaching physical postures, asana, fundamentally understanding how the body works in order to help students prevent injuries, and enjoy a safer practice, is crucial. Whilst I enjoy reading Buddhist philosophy and believe in the wealth of benefits meditation brings, I absolutely believe in applying scientific principles and knowledge of anatomy to the “ancient art of hatha yoga” as Raymond Long describes it.
So, having come across this article, I thought I would share it, because there is so much pseudoscientific nonsense in this industry and newer students so often buy into it because they're placing their trust in us.
