Hey guys 😊
Just wanted to share this with you because the more people I talk to about starting Yoga the more I hear this.. Yes it can be daunting, yes taking that first step can often be the hardest part of starting. But there is no need to fear it and I'm going to tell you why.. So around 3 years ago now I started to take on yoga more seriously and try to practice at least 4 times per week.
At the same time I started I was still recovering from a bad knee injury and couldn't straighten my leg. I was encouraged to start regardless and I had a feeling that it was going to help me a lot, so regardless of my fear of embarrassment or lack of flexibility at the time I gave it a go.
When I got to class, I discovered that there were also other people in the class that suffered from health conditions/injuries in some form.
I got so addicted to yoga and started to understand it and benefit from it differently over those next couple of months, and I was also experiencing less pain for the first time in 2years!.. so I decided to do my teacher training.. Now at this point I still couldn't straighten my knee/nor did I think I would be able to complete the 2 year 500 hour course!
Well I was halfway through the course and loving that I was starting to gain my flexibility back again and feeling the benefits of it on many levels, when my back went.. it was bad. I went from being able to comfortably complete a dynamic Vinyasa class to only being able to stay in child's pose! Literally!
It took me 4 months to recover from this injury and I kept going despite the fact that it was hard. I learnt to modify poses, I learnt how the use of breath is such a powerful tool, even without tricky asanas. But most of all I discovered that yoga is a powerful tool for healing and revovery.
So this is my point. 👏👏 You might look at a yogi and think wow they are sooo flexible and subtle I will never be like them
you might be embarrassed to start where you are currently at.. whatever the reason I can assure you that change will be aparent on many levels 🌸💕 Sometimes we just need to overcome that fear in taking the first step to realise that we can FLY ✌
