When I can live fully in each moment, I can open myself to beauties that might otherwise escape me entirely. The more attuned I am to what is really going on right now, which means unhooking my mind from preoccupation with the past and worry about the future, the freer I am to catch fleeting perceptions and subtle shifts in the world about me.
The more fully we can bring all of ourselves to each moment, the more of our capacity is avaliable for a living.
Life isn’t last year, or ten minutes from now, it’s now, this moment, which will pass and be followed by more passing moments, the flow of time in which were carried forward. Our journey is smooth when we learn to let go, and it’s eased by the joy we learn to take in. ~The promise of a New Day

Thinking with the whole body. Often we hide and shape our bodies to please our sense of perfection. We starve, over exercise, use trendy clothes, uncomfortable wear, overindulgence, what have you, in order to appear a perfect "something", while feeling an imperfect "nothing". The body part we value the most is the brain, tucked away inside our heads where no one can reach and know the truth about ourselves, often misinterpreting our signals and actions, judging and condemning us. We hide this because we believe that if we are honest with ourselves and others we will be put aside and forgotten. It's often a reality, so it's a valid fear. But because of this we learn how to think with only our brains. We use drugs or drink alcohol in order to numb the excessive thinking that happens as a result. To learn how to think with our bodies, we can start by thinking with our hearts. We learn in this way how to release the controls and surrender to the compassion inherent in all of us through the senses. We can learn how to think with our feet, when we're learning to dance with coordination for example. Think with our arms when we carry something heavy. Think with our stomachs when we enjoy a meal. Think with our guts, when there is that barely spoken toilet relief. 😅 We often misunderstand the body's cues and signals, what needs movement will provide pain and rigidity. What needs rest will provide weakness and resistance. It's imperative we learn how to think with our fingers, arms, shoulders, necks, noses, knees, pelvis, and even our senses. How to think with a smell, or with a taste? What does a foul smell does for us, or what does tasting something delicious reacts in our bodies? To think with the whole body is to be mindful of who we are as an individual. Meditative body scans and Yoga Nidra are a great introduction to learn how to simply be inside our own bodies, and they are found free on YouTube or myriad of apps. Dancing is my prescription for you today, a 3 minute song first thing in the morning can shape your whole day to magnificence. ❤️🙏🌈

And this goes beyond words and actions...it’s a nervous system to nervous system felt sense conversation that says more than we can ever speak.

When your horse has an adverse reaction or unwanted response to something, how present can you stay to his experience without getting lost in your own?

An invitation to get curious with this…maybe just notice the next time he spooks or behaves in a way that’s not the way you wanted him too.

What’s the felt sense in your body?

What sensations are present?

Where do you feel that?

Are there any thoughts, images, or beliefs present?

Perhaps a colour or a memory?

Is it ok for you to just stay with that for a little while (provided you’re not in harm’s way!) What do you notice?

Checking in with our felt sense, beyond the stories that may be running wild in our head, gives us a real time insight into what may be presenting outside.

It offers a half-halt that a nervous system may need to help develop awareness, presence & feel in the moment…and just be with that…instead of reacting to old well-worn tracks that may no longer serve us or our horses.

These are just some of the mindfulness tackroom tools we explore in coaching sessions and will also form the basis of my Rested Rider program coming up sooooon....oh I feel the solar plexus sparkles for this one!
