I love using blocks! Especially for chin stand; it gives a sense of safety & security. And I love recording videos so I can see where my alignment is off. My yoga journey has become the perfect balance of yin & yang. I realize that I need the fire and the ice.

When I first saw #scorpionpose for today’s #ThankfulForInversions I thought I’d just skip it. My scorpion practice has been non-existent lately. My low back is so crunchy and wacky I wish you could hear it pop while I do this pose 😳 Well then last night I saw @gabriella.dondero ‘s scorpion post and she totally inspired me to get back at it today. The first picture is from this afternoon after about an hour of hip and shoulder opening. The second picture is from early this morning after about a 45 minute practice, with some hip opening but scorpion was not my goal when I first set out to practice. There is barely any difference, if any. I thought I’d get noticeably further this afternoon after focusing on the key areas, but I think my body is pretty much stuck at this point! Setting a goal to make more progress on this one in 2018! 🤩

15min stretch sequence on your back
This pretty much sums up my yoga practice these days- lying down stretches on my bed. It’s a good way to wind down and relax, while giving my body a nice and easy stretch.
Also it’s perfect for someone who is trying to gain flexibility in the hips, hamstrings and lower back. Having the legs against the wall not only makes stretching easier for those who are tight, it also helps allow the mind and body to relax, and stimulate blood circulation.

Hold each pose for 1min.
For all poses, do your best to keep your shoulders down, and the back of your neck long. Instead of using your arms to pull, use the deadweight of your upper body to do the work. Focus on deepening your breath to help you stretch.

Hip-openers are some of the most requested asanas in my classes as they bring release in many areas that are tight and bring a sense of release across the board to many practitioners. What many students do not understand is that virtually our entire practice of yoga is a big hip-opening opportunity. There are over 20 muscles that cross the hip (the collection of inner thigh muscles known as the adductors, the collection of outer thigh muscles known as the abductors, the hip flexors in front, deep lateral rotators in back, and more), so any movement that stretches any of these muscles could be considered a "hip-opener." For this reason, we could argue almost every pose is effectively a "hip-opener." Tight hips affect everything from your ability to get into Wheel Pose to simply being able to pick up something off the floor. When hips are tight, they increase the load and cause overuse of the spine. In addition to the benefits of improved range of motion and circulation and decreased back pain, opening the hips can create an energetic shift or release as well. Yogic tradition holds the hips as a storage ground for negative feelings and pent-up emotions, especially ones related to control in our lives. Hip-opening can also create space for the birth of new ideas and new pathways. Opening the hips gives us access to freedom in the body and in our own unique expression -- creatively, physically, sexually, and spiritually.
