Truth be told.
Tonight before you go to bed, stand in front of your bathroom mirror. It’s the most intimate & honest place I know. Stare into your own reflection.
In the voice you use to tell someone you love them—in the very tone and tenor and timbre that you use when you say “I love you”—tell yourself three true things. True things.
They can be anything, but they have to be true.
You need to know how your voice sounds when it speaks truth.
You need to know how it feels in your body to deliver & be a vehicle for it.
You need to let the truth know that it is safe with you and that you are safe with it.
Hear your voice wrap itself around every syllable.
Pay attention to where in your body those true words come from.
Watch your lips and tongue announce the arrival of a gift, twin arc angels of your own design and always at your service.
Place one hand on your heart and one on your stomach—feel the insistence of your breath and the force of your life.
Listen to the echo of your consonants and the reverberation of your vowels—yours.
When you can’t remember the last time you heard yourself speak—when you can’t remember the last time you heard something true or good or right—go to your mirror.
Speak the truth there and speak it to yourself.
Hear your voice.
Feel its force.
Use them both for you.
