Over the past months, I have met young people around the world: from university students in Tunisia and climate activists in Fiji, to youth learning tech skills in Ethiopia and Kenya, or visiting the UN NY Headquarters. They all have demonstrated enormous creativity, drive and innovation. And all of them have inspired me with their dynamism and determination.
At the UN we want to increase our engagement with young people and support them in realizing their rights, including their right to education.
And education today should help young people learn how to learn, combining knowledge, life skills and critical thinking. It should include information on sustainability and climate change. And it should advance gender equality, human rights and a culture of peace.
Modern education should be about life-long learning. On #YouthDay, we celebrate all those who are working to transform education to make it more inclusive, accessible and relevant to today’s world.
