Gradeworks for Gossip

For Gossip, I got to feel like a real DP. I usually put lensing in the backseat, but we wanted a distinct look for each era, so this creative decision was a must.
Typically, budget rules all and the first place to cut is in lensing, not because it doesn’t make a difference, but often the client doesn’t notice enough to justify it. I’m thrilled to showcase this project because it has a look that is composed of so many distinct elements, but the lensing is a highlight that firmly stands out.
We used the Zeiss Cp.2 for their sterility as a base look and implemented pearlescent and streak filters for different looks.
For the modern look, we used just the streak filter, to remain sharp but add trendy flare. For the 90’s, we went pearlescent, to soften the highlights and add glow. For the 80’s we combined the pearlescent and streak filter as a final look — these filters, paired with era-appropriate lighting. I felt super empowering as a DP.
